As a preface to this, I'd just like to observe that I really am no good at designing whimsical keyblades. All of my designs have this fairly grounded physical look to them. Ah well. Anyway!
The second keyblade I designed today (wow, three pieces of art in one day, that must be a new record for me) following a brainstorm session with RainyDays. Another gun-themed keyblade, this one is more like a gunkeyblade. It's made out of a blunderbuss, a cutlass, two sets of hilts, rusty straps, some old bones, leather straps, a chain from a set of handcuffs, and the small charm is an open-mouthed grinning skull. The whole thing has a very assembled vibe to it, like a keyblade actually physically built from pre-existing things rather than being designed or magically crafted, and I kinda like it. There's a kinda longer-ish story behind this thing, so I'll just quote myself elsewhere:
"Pirate King Flint Ironsides was feared by the world for his numerous strikes against government ships and colonies, stealing both treasure and materials. Supposedly, at no point was any member of his crew taken alive, either being killed by their comrades or committing suicide. Along the way, legend says that he acquired a treasure referred to as "The Heart of the World," either the largest precious stone in the world or simply his vast treasure horde. Flint disappeared a long time ago, with a lot of debate over what happened to him, whether he died in battle or was secretly executed by some government or such. But people kept searching for his legendary treasure, much like in One Piece or Treasure Island. When Max arrived, he realized immediately what it was Flint possessed: the literal heart of the world. So, he sets off and eventually finds Flint's long lost stronghold, complete with his sunken fleet and the remains of all his men and women. Max makes his way through the trap-laden fortress, using his wits and keyblade to survive, and eventually makes it to the inner most chamber, where he finds Flint himself, sitting in an ornate chair and long-dead, holding in his hands a keyblade of his own. The pieces all fit together now: Flint learned of the Heart of the World, and set up this fortress to protect it, knowing he wouldn't live forever: the raids were to gather the resources necessary to build this fortress, while the treasure was to pay his people and keep them working for him. The thing about killing themselves or each other was to keep the information secret. When the fortress was completed, he set his men against each other, sank all of his ships, set every single trap himself, and finally sat down and waited to die, to ensure that the secret of his fortress would die with him. Max seals the heart of the world, and then takes Flint's keyblade for himself, vowing to continue his mission to protect the world.
Voila! What do you think? A bit bloodthirsty for a Disney game, but since they had the onscreen execution of a child in Pirates 3, I feel justified in doing it. Oh, and Muppet Treasure Island, can't forget that."
So, yeah, quite bloodthirsty, but, as Gonzo once said, "Nah, no worries, this is culture." Another one I hope to see in a drawing in the future, but we shall see. I don't really have any powers or such in mind for it. I guess it's fairly good for melee combat (having an actual sword blade) while the gun half helps augment accuracy for ranged magic.
As a side note, figuring out what to do for the teeth of this blasted thing was a pain in the neck, and ended up taking the most time, including breaks and interruptions.
