This model was created for a second-year class I took in my first year to fill up my timetable. (I'd been exempted from a couple of classes on the grounds of prior knowledge and experience.)
The brief required as much focus on the art of the piece as the design itself. It took me a while to decide what to build, but after going through a few old projects I found a very simple model of a generation ship, and decided to make that my model. Cue about two months' work and the result you can see here.
Design, image, etc. is mine; textures I found on the 'net and mixed them to suit. The name of the ship is a homage to another beautiful vessel. Rendered in 3DS Max using the scanline renderer and Gelato for the textures. And yes, I know there is no shadowcasting, but even my machine explodes when it tries to render it.
