And the sky is filled with light
Can you see it?
All the black is really white
If you believe it
And the longing that you feel
You know none of this is real
You will find a better a place
In this twilight
Can you see it?
All the black is really white
If you believe it
And the longing that you feel
You know none of this is real
You will find a better a place
In this twilight

I haven't heard The Good Soldier yet! Now I'll have to get it. I can hardly ever afford to buy albums, so I always seem to pick up albums in bits and pieces online. I too used to be a HUGE fan-girl of NIN, but I have also matured (getting old does that to ya, eh? :P) and I'm not like OMGNINOMGOMGOMG anymore. But I will always love Trent's work - his lyrics are beautiful, meaningful.
Actually, after doing a lot of research on the Year Zero album I have an entirely new level of respect for him. The things he did, and said, with that album is absolutely /incredible/. I don't think I've ever seen an artist go to such extents to get a message across. And a /very/ important one, at that.
Oi, I'm so long-winded. e_e; Sorry EC!

Hmmm... when i first heard that the album was out, i went to nin.com and actually listened to the album in its entirety there. ...but i can't find that part anymore, so i guess it's gone.
But... if you haven't heard the album, i recommend getting it! save up a few bucks, oh man, it's worth it. :D
And yeah... concept albums seem to be a rarity these days, especially in mainstream.... and with the whole "singles are all that matter, we don't need to make a cohesive album that works artistically as a whole, so we'll just stick a bunch of unrelated songs in a pile" mentality. It's awesome that he did one.

Oh, I am totally buying it sometime - if for nothing else, because I actually like supporting artists like Trent. I've heard a great deal of songs on the album, just not the thing in it's entirety. Before I even heard any of the songs, I caught wind of the album and the incredible message, and did a lot of digging around on the internet. I must've spent hours just going through all the sites that Trent created. Really fascinating stuff.
Even though they are entirely un-related musically, the thing that Trent did with Year Zero strongly reminds me of John Lennon, and his albums like 'Imagine', which also had a lot of political commentary on it, and got him in a whole lot of trouble.
One other thing I like about Trent is his willingness to share with his fans - for instance, he released the entire album himself into a torrent for people to download, listen to, and re-mix. :D How awesome is that??

Yeah, he's smart, embracing the future... because information can't be held for ransom, and there's no way to stop people from 'stealing' music and such digitally. The recording industry is fighting a futile battle (and making it worse for themselves) by trying to stop the future.
Yeah... anyone who wants to still be in business in twenty years needs to start thinking differently, things have changed a lot as far as media goes.
