What if Mufasa was the one to give Scar his scar? This is a theory I've been playing around with and the more I think about it the more I like it. :D
"Scar" Theories:
1.) The semi canon TLK short stories tell of how Taka gets his scar from a water buffalo. No, sorry. I don't buy that. It's way to unrealistic for an animal of that size to do no more damange than a small scar; furthermore Scar's scar looks like a claw mark from a lion.
2.) His father, Ahadi, gave him his scar. This is a very popular theory and one that the majority seems to accept. I guess it could work, but I'm not really a huge fan of it myself. Mufasa speaks kindly of his father in the movie, if he were that cruel to his brother why would he?
And now we're back to the Mufasa theory. I really like this one. Yeah, we're suppose to see Mufasa as the wise king, the kind father...the majestic lion that everyone respects. But no one is perfect and just as no one is born "evil", no one is born wise either. Mufasa was taught and grew into the character we know. You can't help but notice how he tends to have a rather short fuse, especially when it comes to his brother. From what we see in the movie he was never exactly nice to Scar; seemed to talk down to him. Makes one wonder how long this went on.
Surely, adult Mufasa was more mature and in control of his temper than he was as a cub or adolescent. What if he went too far when he was younger? Now I'm sure Scar (then Taka) brought it on himself and you can come up with whatever story you like for that, but I could seriously see this happening. Mufasa would of course quickly regret allowing his frustration and anger to get the better of him, but the damage would be done. Mufasa being the one that gave Taka his Scar - in addition to Taka's ever growing jealousy, seems to give him all the more reason to go through with his future plans - to push that jealousy to hatred, don't you think? :p
ANYWAYS. I have written (still writing actually) a fan fiction on this...and this artwork is a scene from it. I SHOULD post it so this picture makes more sense but honestly...it's huge. I would spam this page something awful if I posted it all, and to just post this part from it...well, you need to see what happens first to make Mufasa so mad. :D Heh, I guess I'll post it eventually though. >.> I'm so unsure about my writing style lols.
PS: You're welcome to think of them as older (adolescents) when this happens, I just like drawing them as cubs and this is the age they are in my story so. :p

Lessons are usually learned at the expense of others, not oneself.
I think those 6 New Adventure books should be gathered and burned. In them, they describe Ahadi "with a black mane and green eyes" yet the pictures show him looking like a Mufasa clone with a slightly darker red mane. Also the animators had stated they always intended Scar's scar to come from another lion. Those books were just a stopgap to sell some books and someone probably being paid $10/hour wrote the story. They wrote it that no other lion gave Scar his scar so that no one but him looked like the bad guy. Anyone who quotes those books as how he got his scar also has to accept that Simba had a son, not a daughter. XP

Yup, but a lot of people really like "Kopa" too and hate Kiara/Simba's Pride overall. While I'm not a huge fan of SP, I think Kiara's design was at least more original that "Kopa". He just looked like a clone of Simba, with a mane tuft. So creative. XD I hated how they made Scar seem bad from the start and Mufasa all noble and perfect...if they ever did make a prequel that would worry me. Would they show more of their characters or keep them stereotypically "good" and "bad" like in the books. :\ The only thing I like from the 6 New Adventures is the name "Taka", since I think it's fitting and it makes more sense than being given the name "Scar" at birth. XD
Disney would ruin a prequel. You could probably guess every single thing they'd write into it, which is almost why I'm glad they probably will never make one. Anything that would make Scar look any bit like a victim would potentially make people sympathize with what he did in the movie, and Disney couldn't have that, seeing as family values would be *gasp* tainted with reality. :P Oh well. XD
