This is an initial concept drawing of three of the races of shark people that make up the Selachiians. I know I haven't said much of anything about them before, but I plan to upload a cool history and some more info soon, as well as more individual races, and a detail of myself (once I decide on it). I am ramping up my drawings this weekend, so expect more soon.
Please provide feedback, as I am fairly new to drawing anything living, especially with anthro features, so I'd like any suggestions/tips I can get. Thanks!
NEGA:
These curious creatures are considered to be far more physically developed than most other Selachiians. This is notable in their formation of distinct ears and more level heads with semi-rigid skeletons. (Most other Selachiians have cartilidgeous skeletons and maintain a rigid shape by way of very dense muscular systems around the cartilidge.) Negas are known for their extremely keen eyesight, hearing, and physical robustness. They are the mainstay of the Selachiian army because, though not particularly smart in comparison to some other races, the Negas are very hardy and can survive with no moisture whatsoever for days. The Negas most commonly appear as foot soldiers and some vehicle operators.
CARCHAAR:
This particular race was once made up of many different sub-groups, but has come to be known generally as the Carchaars, due to physical, cultural, and genetic similarity. They are the most common of all Selachiians, making up the majority of the civilian population. Carchaars are nearly all average in build, intelligence, and endurance, with the occassional deviant. They can be found in all walks of life, including civilian business and military positions, though their general reliance on water exposure for hydration makes them more suited for life on the planet's surface.
IISURU:
The Iisuru are an exceptionally fit people, generally considered to be the most athletic and acrobatic of all the Selachiians. They are unusually smart for their size and strength, though are quite violent and were the instigators of many conflicts before the unification. The Iisuru were once known for their body markings, or tattoos, though they have now brought this cultural feature to the rest of the Selachiians. Tattoos are now very commonly seen on all races, indicating anything from marital status, to military rank, as jewelry and insignia on clothing are never used. Iisuru can be found throughout the Selachiian world, and commonly serve in the military as scouts, or in any position that requires prolonged exertion.
Edit: I noticed a gill had disappeared when I ran the cutout filter in PS, so I replaced it.

That's what I like in FA: artists with interesting ideas and concepts! :)
Could I use this as a reference for further pictures involving sharks? I promise I'll do something dedicated to the Selachiians ^^
I noticed the navel, hehe.. mind to tell more about their sexual life?
...
Err, I mean, their reproduction cycle x3 I'm a, uuuh, sociologist coming from the Ketii Islands, and I'm writing a...thesis, yes, on social behaviors ^^; *stands with his tight white coat, laptop in a hand, and big fake glasses*

Not bad. I like the technical descriptions! Maybe for the Carchaar and Iisuru races, for when viewing head-on, you can bring their eyes a bit more inward. Although sea predators have their eyes more to the sides, if they have adapted anthropomorphic traits and presumably live on land, their eyes might have evolved a more forward-facing position than strict marine fish. There was an article recently on ScienceDaily.com that discussed why this is. According to the article, fish have side-facing eyes because there is a lot less 'clutter' underwater (explained later) and it's more advantageous to have a wider field of view to sight potential prey. Land dwelling predators needed forward-facing eyes in order to 'see through' objects in a cluttered environment filled with foliage, rocks, etc. Although it limits their field of view when compared to marine life, this 'see-through' ability comes from stereoscopic sight, allowing slightly different vantage points to process the information and spot prey through the non-prey distractions. Maybe a compromise, just enough of a shift so you can see their pupils more clearly from the straight-on view.
Good info, thanks! Actually, I know their eyes are shown incorrectly above. I got the perspective wrong. I fixed that in my own personal data sheet, however. I should really go back through and PS these into the proper shape. But then again, there are a lot of things I should do, like get my own place so I can have some peace and quiet again.
