Eventually I might stop writing songs about Nik. Like just about everything I write, I just kinda sat down and started strumming and a melody and lyrics somehow came to me. I wrote it down once and didn’t do any editing. For some reason I find it kinda hard to rewrite lyrics after the fact. My mind tells me that this is a dishonest thing to do.
I personally really like this song. I can’t say that for everything I do.
Tech wise, this is a first for me since this is the first recording I have almost entirely edited in Logic Studio. I was extremely pleased with the effects I was able to get both with my hardware and software in this one. I got to use 2 mics on all the guitar tracks, a stereo room mic, a wide diaphragm condenser for doing the vocals and with my new 8 channel system I didn’t have to sacrifice anything.
Logic effects plugins blow garage band out of the water. Though for simple recording and editing both are plenty good, If you really need a reverb with a particular shape or make extremely fine cuts, logic is the thing to use. Eventually I hope to wean myself off garage band entirely.

Lyrics:
Just like a flame, we burn out or fuel alone
Just like a play, a dead man’s on man show
We live our lives in a haze
Drifting though connected weeks and days
No one will tell you that you don’t have the time
To focus on what’s causing you pain
My little one, you still have so much to live for
Don’t you know? This just isn’t what you’re meant for
The life you have left to live
Ain’t for you so much as for him
Lord we still need you have to know
Just what you’ll leave when you go
That lonesome road, the one I’ve so often traveled
The heavy load, like six feet under gravel
I feel the rocks weigh me down
As the walls close in on this town
What will be left, no one can say
But, what was ever here anyway?
