I wish that this shot had been down a wee bit to get his bottom and a wee bit to the left to separate the spar of land from his head, putting it right out in the water. Still, try taking pics of a snake when you're in full sunlight, can't see the LCD and have the camera at arms distance. Want good pictures? Take lots of em. 80 in this series.

Thanks. 80 shots is nothing. I was over the 3,000 mark for this site before that afternoon. I figure out of 200-400 shots or so I get one that's print-worthy. This, decent enough though it is, isn't I think. Then there's wading through all the shots looking for things you missed. Yikes!
I'm in Manitoba, about three hours north of Winnipeg. This particular spot has LOTS of garters as there's tons of cracks, spaces, and caves there. Great spot for wintering. If you ever wanna stand in a spot where you're absolutely surrounded by em though, check this spot!

I've been there in the spring when they come out. Imagine an Olympic pool full...
