Something from the wonderful
that I forgot to upload.
It's been about 10 months since I had micki try her hand at Xiā Chang'e. I'm quite pleased with how this turned out and really enjoy her work very much. So to be able to have an opportunity to have her create this image of Xiā was both fun and exciting.
This was done before her design was refined by magenta. So her wrist markings appear on both from the original design made by shana. Also, the colors are more vibrant as well. I always liked this design created by shana and it worked beautifully. I also love her more refined look now in which magenta helped with greatly. For me, this character really blossomed from her initial beginning as an adoptable. I have both shana, (for creating her) and magenta, (for fine tuning her) to thank for such a beautiful character.
When I asked micki to draw Xiā. I still hadn't decided what direction I was heading with her. So I was having mostly artists draw her in various poses and dresses to get a better feel for her. Xiā is a very traditional giant panda from China. So she will always be depicted wearing traditional fashions and follow traditional Chinese culture and practices of old origin. I've always wanted her to be talented in music as well. Thus, her playing of the flute shown in this image. In time, I had her skilled in the pipa as well.
Anyway, I'm very happy with this image for the age that it is and the whimsy I felt at that time for the content for this idea. It was a wing-it, but I was able to ask micki to keep her in traditional dress and to play the flute. I like how she captured her essence and form in this picture. Thank you ever so much micki!
