Finally got around to do the amazing Captain Hanni's character Rustam looking all fancy with a glass of cognac at some swanky place :U
This one was a bit tricky with using red for the shadows from the red lights, but definitely something different for me!
Thanks to strange-fox for telling me what to repaint in this pic :V

Super stoked that you are that happy with it =D Rustam is a pretty rad character and happy to have illustrated him, but looking at more recent pic's Danny has an awesome style with those side burns :0
My rendering of objects is a blessing and a curse :I
I'm just glad that you were down for this, let me know if you want the original res of this as well!

I meant to give a reasonable comment before the favorite, but there is so many things I can praise about this image, words by itself don't cut it. My favorite portion about this is the way you handle value so well, that everything has weight to it, and nothing appears flat or out of place. The way you reference the hell out of things really shows your dedication and attention to edges.
And that scarf detail, insane dude.

All good Cybill, and I think your words were rad :]
Those are things I'm getting better at so good to know that they are paying off. And yes it does help to have good reference to help solidify the character better.
Once I get some things done, I'll put up a process of this pic and how I did the scarf texture :]
Thanks again!

Makes me think of Dean Cornwell, though your brushwork is many times tighter. You really knocked this one out of the ballpark! I'm a sucker for high-saturation images. The whites around the face pop like crazy. And the attention to detail, like the reflection of the overhead light in the snifter, is outstanding.
Dean Cornwell rocks my socks. Dig in and enjoy, he's yummy! Or his art is. Dunno about the man. Love them big fat delicious choppy brush strokes.
You handle light so well. It's an undeniable trait of your work. Polish and light are handled with finess and élan and zazz, even. I salute you from very far away! And I await your next post with glee.

just had confidence in his strokes, and knows where to put them :0
Thanks! I guess I practised it a fair bit when I was doing my illustrations, just have to study more on interesting compositions and colours!
might be a while till I get the next full illustration piece done, but I'm working on some stuff :]

Yay! Canna wait!
Cornwell was a confident painter, it must be admitted. It's neat when you can peek under the hood of folks like Cornwell, or Tom Lovell, or Gil Elvgren. Have you ever seen some of J.C. Leyendecker's studies? They're insane! Every bit as tight as the final painting! It's as if the man couldn't lay down a bad stroke.
