This is the First Anniversary gift for the love of my life,
Dimby. It's a portrayal of the last Jazz dance he ever performed for at his university. He played in Jazz 1 and while Jazz 2 was playing, we'd dance. I came out in my twenties and was a shy geek in school, so I never went to my high school prom. Dancing at Dimby's university during the last month of his attendance there felt like the prom I never got. And to be able to dance with a boy made it all the more special. I wanted to capture that moment in a painting and our first anniversary seemed like the perfect time to commission it. I feel it turned out magnificently.
While the characters are stylized, the hall is completely accurate.
KaputOtter was wonderful to work with through this process. She was very patient through all the details and revisions I demanded and I couldn't be happier with the final piece.
When she asked what species to make the band, I hadn't put any thought into it besides the instrumentation. I asked for species with coloration that invokes certain characters that have significance for Dimby and I. I wanted the band to look consistent with no one sticking out, but if you knew what to look for, there'd be easter eggs. Once again,
KaputOtter pulled it off wonderfully. See if you can guess the characters. }:)
They're playing our song: Moonlight Serenade. Dimby and I still dance every chance we get.
