Good news: On Amtrak, you can have WiFi
Bad News: You can't have FA
Heading to Furry Weekend Atlanta, I attempted to add an entry to my travelogue journal as I was boarding my train at Penn Station, using Amtrak's Wifi on my Archos 5 media device. Lo and behold, this came up.
I can't imagine that FA got blacklisted because of anything anybody looked at while using the service, so FA must be part of a general (poop)list of NSFW domains employed by corporate web-filter services. Still, this was funny to look at, and other folks at the con suggested I post this to FA for giggles. I plan to relocate this to a cloud-service later on as this really isn't "artistic"--I'll just need an actual drawing to replace this with and link to the photo elsewhere. (assuming it doesn't get mod-nuked in the meantime)
BTW, as far as I know, this would generally only affect travelers to Anthrocon using the Pennsylvanian, as Amtrak Wifi is only on the commuter-esque Northeast Corridor coaches/cafe cars for the time being. I don't think long-distance equipment like the Crescent that I rode to Atlanta is scheduled to get it.

That's what web-enabled cellphones are for :)
I'm pretty sure there aren't enough furries riding the train to make their porn habits a concern--it's probably more that FA is on a general list of NSFW domains used by web-filtering services in general, and Amtrak simply subscribes to one as the easiest solution. I didn't have a chance to see if message boards or photo sites in general were blocked--I was out of range once my train pulled out

Well no, it isnt just furries buddy. Xtube, Gwenmedia, GearFetish... All those sites would also be banned. I personally think this isnt a bad policy, they live by the creed of 'Public life is not Private Life'. Prevents Amtrak losing customers over select people's freedom with their private lives in a public setting (IE: Visiting FA which does have porn related content on it). It also is because of that NSFW thing, as their public internet is managed by their corporate IT which dictates all of what is blocked, so you are very right. It isnt that its furries in the least, it is because the internet has labeled us, thus then Amtrak must as well, as a sexual content site.
Sad to say, this isnt the only place that does it. Most work places, libraries, government internet, ect ect... All block the same thing for basically the same reason.
So again, sad to say, its just how itll always be in public places.

Add an Amtrak engineer's cap and you're done.

The day will come when the internet is totally filtered, and not only for political or religious reasons. A common expience in 50 years might be the moment when a customer of Wikisoft or MScom learns that Picasso was one of France's greatest painters, or that Tennessee Williams was an American writer, because that information wasn't hosted by his server. He'd have to switch to a rival corporation to have access to the Louvre or American literature... in fact, not only to have access but to ever have the remotest clue about what's in other self-enclosed information universes.
What's stupid about filters like that is that they'll block entire sites, including non-objectionable material, because of objectionable material being somewhere on the site. Kinda like not letting someone into a bookstore that sells 100,000 different books because of the 100 books in the controlled access backroom that contain porn
