Gothic Lolita style, if I understand the history of the term, is unrelated to Lolita/Loli/Lolicon in origin; just an unfortunate coincidence. I know I had to turn my head the first time I heard about the former; not my style, but I can appreciate it when it's done well.
Yeah, I was kind of surprised when I found out about the... unsavory... connotations of the term. To me, Lolita always meant the elegant style of dress and proper manners/mannerisms. It brought to mind images of proper ladies having tea at a finely appointed table- not that... other thing.
