It's basically a coming-of-age story where a 17-year-old deals with family issues, sexuality, and friends, while he reads through a story of a dancer from the Moulin Rouge era. The two stories come together in some really interesting and spooky ways as the book goes on, aided by absinthe, and a painting from a very long time ago. . . .
