On a late night excursion I was coasting on the desire to design a yet another new type of odd character to amuse myself lately, I had the idea to make another goo like monster that was going to have three different personalities BUT for some reason it’s being a pain. Instead I made something a little different that I was just as pleased with :)

I know there are plenty of shadowy beasts and creatures out there but I was far too lazy to look up one I’d like. So have my own take on a very low level hell demon. Umberlings are not a whole human soul tormented to eternal damnation so much as small broken off shards and fragments of what’s left. Their population is ridiculously numerous to the equivalent of an insect infestation should you see one then there is a hundred more behind it. All umberlings have common abilities related to their size and shape like that of a shadow and the oldest of umberlings can sometimes even hold corporeal shapes. They even have the ability to steal tiny hunks of the living's soul in order to form more umberlings.


Umberlings a generally harmless being so low on the food-chain and most never even leave the bowls of hell skittering around the feet of the bigger ones. When they are allowed topside an umberling are useful as spies and messengers.
