Golden Laurel, my pony character, is very theraputic to draw when I'm overworked. So tonight I took a sketch of her and made a ref.
She is an archaeologist. She lives an undetermined amount of time in the future, and is known for discovering ruins of what appear to be a sextet motif of multicolored ponies, perhaps a pantheon of times long past.
The fabled Goddess-Queens of the sun and moon no longer hold the world in their utopian reign. Golden Laurel, as she seeks some sense of art and romance in the ruins of old, thinks she would prefer the world to be forcibly made good and just again, not trusting it in the hands of councils, wars, and increasingly muddled politics.
But these are the private thoughts of a pony obsessed with an imagined past.
Original image of her breakthrough discovery: (seems so poorly drawn and painted now!)

Wow! What an interesting back story... like, very much so. In a painfully "I wish I'd thought of that!" sort of way! Future-ponies... neatneatneat.
I like her design a lot, I feel like she'd glimmer a bit in the sun - not just her hooves, but that her browns are more like other types of metals in a subtle way, and that maybe her coat would shimmer almost as if she is dusted very lightly in gold body shimmer.

I just like ruins and stuff, and I'm always thinking of my trip to Italy two years ago, so I wanted a character that would discover an epic past, haha
I imagine that when she is gussied up and not all dusty from being on the dig or somehow even dustier from examining and cleaning artifacts in the poorly maintained workshop, she would have the strange metallic shine of an Akhal-Teke horse: http://www.allhorsebreeds.info/akha.....ural-sheen.jpg

I have seen and faved that lovely piece of work. It is not poorly drawn or painted. please dont change it as its texture gives a dream like ambiance to the work and that is what first caught my attention. You will always grow as an artist, your work will change, but the great works you have done will always remain great.
Nice to think of Celestia and Luna not so much leaving or abandoning the world, as simply passing to another part of it; one which you cannot reach by just travelling, separate but still connected. Maybe they purposefully left the world to the mortal races, and left with the other immortal and mythological ones. Perhaps they had no choice, but they still keep an eye on those left behind, by day and night.
9_9 Or "It's just a really nice sketch and colour ref of a pretty pegasus."

Hehe! Aww. Well, I guess at least I don't have to feel like a hypocrite or whateve, as I never hated the pony thing; I just thought it was cute and funny. I still think it's cute and funny, even after getting kinda into the show. It's also inherently relaxing. There really is something downright therapeutic about ponies when one is overworked.
Wonder what my pony character would look like 9_9

Haha to be fair, 'hate' is too strong a word, maybe 'was irrationally annoyed by' would be more appropriate. That was because I'd only come in contact with very outspoken fans that creeped me out, and costumes I didn't like. Having seen the show now and discovering it was made by Lauren Faust, whom I respect immensely... yeah, I dig. I dig it a LOT. Plus yes, it's this perfect antithesis to SUPER SRS WORK TIL DEATH life...
WELL YOU JUST LET ME KNOW IF YOU DRAW ONE. Probably would have veryyyyyy long hair 8U

I was thinking about this, and I think both are still a possibility in the same way that pegasi can still work in the sky (not with weather, but perhaps with cloud shaping). Didn't really decide on alicorns, but unicorns... ok nerd time
I figure, Twilight is unique in that she can really USE *magic*, and not just use levitation or whatever to make things easier to do. Other unicorns like Rarity just use magic like hands, and that's now I imagine it in the future. Whether it's because the complete controlled magic environment that Celestia and Luna had going, and magic is weakening (heck, maybe it's in danger of going away completely, and now it's rare even that born unicorns can use even weak magic, so it's like... sad magically-neutered unicorns ha :I) or a matter of belief a-la Terry Pratchett's gods system, or something else, I dunno. I like the idea of the previous closed-magic system though.
