In downtown Toronto, the CN Tower pierces the sky above a locomotive of the railway for which it was named- the Canadian National Railway. CN GP9 #4803 is a diesel typical of the days in the early 1960s when the last steam power was eliminated in Canada. The maple leaf logo and olive mustard-yellow paint scheme long ago gave way to the CN "wet noodle" and black, red and white paint, but CN still crosses

indeed. the tower as the tallest "free standing" observation tower in the world for over 30 years, ( at 1850 feet) and still the tallest in the western hemisphere. ( the glass floor is not healhy for anyone with vertigo or height fears *lol*

The caption to the first picture says:
"It wasn't in my plans to go by train, though octagonal cars deserve curiosity."
(The translation comes up as "octahedral" but they're actually decahedral.)
Obviously my favourite graphic designer (who designed some of the Moscow Metro carriages) hadn't encountered the Hawker-Siddeley bi-level coaching stock!
Also the keen-eyed will notice the base of the CN Tower in the upper right of the picture.
