Shot my first hand gun today! I shot Cory's dad's Beretta 90-Two in 9mm. I'm thoroughly interested in purchasing a pistol, probably a Walther PPQ. Might aquire a conceal carry too.
I haven't purchased the PPQ yet because we're tossing the idea between buying just a Robinson Arms XCR-L, or an AR-15 + PPQ, or an FNP 45 Tactical (for him) + PPQ.
So many choices, not enough monies DX

Yeah, but can *I* shoot the .45? :P This is only the second time I've even shot a fire arm. I would at least like to rent one or try a .45 out before going out and buying one y'know? To see if I'd be able to handle it.
Haha thank you! I've been watching Magpull Dynamics videos on the pistol.

The answer is almost certainly yes. While they do kick a bit more the right gun or the right ammo can compensate for that. Some women (particularly those with small hands) don't like the larger grip. Still, whenever possible you should try a gun before buying it. Lots of indoor ranges will let you rent since the gun never leaves their property.
Particularly if you are going for the carry get a gun you're comfortable with. If you can't use it well or are afraid of using it you're better off not having it at all since introducing a weapon to the situation automatically escalates it. Never pull it if you're not willing to put it to use on the target, period. As long at it's not a .22 or .32 or similar crappy defense caliber it will work on most your problems.
.45 will provide more stopping power, but it's also harder to conceal. A good defense load like Hydrashocks in the 9mm will go a long way to making up for it though.

Well done. Good stance too. just keep your grip tight, and your eye on the front sight, and the rear sight will move into place. I'd second the recommendation for the .45, that is if your hands can wrap around the grip properly. A Glock 21 or a classic M 1911A1 would work, either/ or, but for you I'd probably recommend the Glock as it's simpler to operate and easier to clean (less parts).
