Just giving people a little look at how I shade. This is just the lineart and shading layers.

Well, it's actually two layers of lineart... I've taken to duplicating the lineart layer and erasing all but the important outlines on one of the two lineart layers. Then I put them both at 70 percent opacity, and that gives a subtle outline effect that I like. Adds to the depth of the picture.

The shading itself is done for the most part by subtraction: I cover the whole thing I wanna shade in a really dark, yet still colored shade on its own layer, at 40 percent opacity. Then I change to the eraser, set at around 50 percent opacity with the tablet pen's pressure altering the opacity, and I erase the parts where there's not supposed to be shade, "lightening" the shade where there's just supposed to be a little. Then I add some highlights, both as 30-percent-opaque colors, and as 100-percent opaque white for the gleaming parts.

Where I feel that I need a darker shade, like the mouth, nostrils, ear and part of the hair, I add another layer of shade, doing that the same way as the previous one.
