The point was that platypuses, who are mammals, lay eggs. Echidnas also lay eggs. They may be the only two species of Monotremes (egg-laying mammals) that are currently alive, but there used to be plenty in past eras where more mammals retained reptilian characteristics.
Also, refrain from the over-obnoxious use of ellipses in the future please.
