I made these last week, for a costume party with an underwater theme. :D Two hats (well, technically they're more visors but everyone called them hats, so) with elwire added to make a catfish and an axolotl. :3
I'm very happy with them considering they were thrown together so quickly, and just with materials I had on-hand... though kinda wish I'd had enough blue wire to make a blue catfish instead of a red catfish, so it would have read more like a fish and less like a dragon! But hey, I had a lot of spare red, and there's nothing wrong with dragons anyway.

Yeah, it looked even more like an dragon when I first had the mouth going back to around the eyes, like :3, Which is cool, but not quite what I was going for! (Then again, I'd be willing to bet asian dragons have been traditionally inspired by big river fishes, among other things!)
Yeah you're right! I've always wondered why they look like that and you finally answered my question! Also I've made up a story last night as a gift for my husband's Birthday, and there I was telling that the birds were singing about different creatures that God has created. They sang about different species but when it came up to the dolphins the birds started to fly as if they were doing it in water. Just like dolphins they've started to do tricks and "jump in the waves". So yeah you've totally got the idea of the Asian inspiration!
Thank you!
P.S. The hats are awesome, I'm really waiting for more to see! These ones came out very neat.

I'm keeping these, in part because one went to a friend already, and the other is too patched-together to be of sellable quality. c_c I wouldn't sell something if it wasn't reliable, elwire can be finicky, and my soldering here is rushed at best! I would consider making some other critters sometime, however. I had fun making these!
I forget where I got the wire from, but as with the tape I was looking for the cheapest so I could experiment with them a bit. The EL tape came from here: http://www.jab-tech.com/EL-Wire-and.....Tape-c-62.html
I made a neon suit some years ago for Anthrocon.
One of the movies shows it with the anubis head.
