We watched some cartoon adaptation of Uncle Remus recently and I was kind of disappointed that it wasn't southern gothic enough. So I started doodling up versions of the characters that felt a little more stereotypically southern, like Brer Fox as the snake-handling preacher and Brer Bear as the plantation owner. Dunno if I'll do any more with these guys, but it was a fun exercise.
"Brer" Rabbit would, of course, be outwitting Bossman Bear and wrecking havoc on his carrot plantation or something. Her look here is based on the heroine of "Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarves." Why is she gender swapped? DUNNO COPPER, cuz I thought it would be funny.
Brer Tarry Pin basically looks like any old southern white guy that you see in any movie set in Alabama circa 1960. That was a popular look for old guys back then.

No, it was some straight to video version:

Though it was pretty good for what it was.

The original folk stories can get pretty gritty, like when Bruh Rabbit did a shuck-n-jive to fool the farmer's daughter into dancing and falling into a pit, so she wouldnt grab him and kill him.
Brer Fox = A seriously vicious "Uncle Tom"
Brer Bear = big, dumb, ignorant, violent, does whatever Fox says
Ms. Hen = white liberal / anti-slavery / underground railroad helper
Brer Snake = slick Free Man who uses his wits to survive
Brother Turtle = Revolutionary / remind you of 2pac kind of / tells it like it is to his fellow oppressed
Black Snake = Similar to Brother Turtle, kind of a undercover revolutionary
Farmer = absolutely no sense of compassion, never ever feels sorry for anything or anybody, kills anything and everything to better himself
Farmer's Daughter = basically, Elmyra. Killing animals is nothing to her. Its just what she grew up with.
Hound = think of some vicious hick from Deliverance, basically. A sharecropper / KKK type.
