A strip about my Facebook misadventures.
Some people asked me what the lines in French mean so here are the translations:
Le chagrin silencieux: "The silent sorrow"
L'enfer est tout entier dans ce mot: solitute >> "Hell is all contained in this word: loneliness."

Look, i know this is a really old art, but i decided to reply to it anyway, since it is something i see very often around artists. I'm not an artist, okay. But i'm a watcher, so i'm a part of the issue as well. First of all, it's pretty sad to see or experience these things with artists. Or any human being at all. It's sad to see that people only come to you when you have something to give. They must be really bad persons who only care about seeing your works and nothing more...right? Well, that's the part where things aren't always what it seems to be. That was a rethorical question, i will later return to that point. You see, there is a vicious cycle in the watcher-artist relationship. Artists produce art and post it on the website. A lurker stumbles on said art and, if it appeals to them, will favourite it, possibly starting to watch the page as well. Probably, there will be a point that the watcher wants to communicate with the artist, be it compliments, critics, or a simple invitation to start a chat. And usually, the artist do not reply to said commentary.
Of course, artists do have their motives to not replying to them. They don't have the time to do so, they are too stressed with their life to do it, there are too many comments to reply to, they simply dislike to talk with their watchers...and so forth. Even so...the watchers will feel distanced from the person that creates such marvelous works. Even though the internet makes such interactions possible, the watcher will feel like he's outside the glass stand, looking the drawing but never able to talk with the artist. So, the watchers will "get it" and stop talking altogether. Or, even worse...they will believe that the artist is a person who doesn't care about their watchers, that they are self-centered, arrogant. IN the end, watchers will see themselves as nothing more than a name in the list of faves and watches...and in turn, some of them will think that there is no problem to objectify the artist as well. How many watchers do you have that never express themselves, only appearing when there are new art posts or giving free requests? It even breeds "vile watchers", full of self-entitlement, believing they deserve all the care and attention from the artists, since "IT'S ME WHO MAKES HIM STAND WHERE HE STANDS NOW" (a.k.a. i press the watch button and you owe me your life-kind of stuff).
It's innevitable. Even you do that as well: 4 out of the newest 10 art posts have you replying to some, or all, commentaries (2 of them you replied to only one person.) And even if you actually treated ALL you watchers better, there are still many artists who act the same way. Seeing as how this kind of relationship is so stiff and full of unsaid feelings, it's not a mystery why so many watchers don't even bother to hear artists words anymore. "he/she doesn't hear me. So why should i listen to him/her?" It's problematic and i don't believe there is any other solution to this problem, other than hearing and replying to your watchers whenever you can, even if it's a small compliment. Regaining the trust of those that cheer for you is the only thing that could change the sad situation you were in.
Just a small exclamation before finishing it: i am not, repeat, AM NOT holding you responsible for this kind of problems you deal with, I AM NOT demonizing you for not replying to your watchers and I AM NOT telling you how to live your life. It's not your fault when you suffered like this and you have your own reasons to not reply to all the comments. I'm just a random watcher, giving their opinion about the matter. For me, i got to the point that i don't even bother to talk or comment the posts from those i watch. The users i watch seem like...not human, just something that produces art. And probably you may think of me in the same way, something that watches and faves your works. Communication is the first thing that BOTH parties must do to break this wall we are cementing between us.
since i believe this message won't be read, neither answered, doing so just relieves my chest. I felt it needed to be said, some time or another.
