He hadn't been Alpha for two years when it happened. Being raised as he had been, to a young tribe that belonged to the family of the immortal Death Shamans...
Mortality is forgotten. Everything felt forever. So when the reality hit after his father passed, Miq was not sure how to handle anything at first. It.. almost felt like a bad dream but the reminder from his family was enough not to get too lost.
The motions were hard - the smile that he forced to appear genuine - the words of support, everything he did to make sure his family could smile again no matter what it took.
But he never vented himself. His Beta, Kia, so used to him and his stupid antics... one night, a particularly quiet one, she had went to seek Miq from outside where he had been sitting and watching the stars. It was never hard to sneak up on him, but she watching him quietly, able to see the sadness in his posture even if she couldn't see his face.
Miq tensed suddenly as he felt arms around him, ready to fling off his usual attacker but hesitated. She wasn't attacking, he could feel the different in her weight, and she wasn't forcing in any direction. Her arms were under his own, claws not sinking into flesh, instead tightly embracing him, herself pressed to his back where she dropped to sit.
"Kia..."
"You're such an idiot," she grumbled, eyes narrowed off from him. "Just... let it out, okay? Stay strong for the family, but you're going to need someone to be strong for you. Let me do that now."
There was silence between them, Miq's body tense against her own. Slowly, however, he was beginning to relax. He was quiet, but she felt the trembling and unevenness of breath along with his speeding heart. Yes he cried, finally letting it out. Grateful for it, even, when all would be said and done...
