Just another concept sort of thing - Wave swords are magical weapons that don't normally appear to have any sort of blade - just a handle. They can only be activated by those that properly know how to enable them, and when they do, a blade of magical energy, elemental or not, forms - ready to be wielded.

Oh neat. I could imagine something like that being a sort of weapon only magic users can weild effectively with their large mana pools to feed into it, giving them an unfair upper hand in close quarters fighting.
I'm also imagining that anyone activating the lightning one gets electrocuted. XD

I've always felt kinda at odds with Pure Energy weapons, even in a fantasy setting. I suppose some materials can be imagined as substantitive (is that even a word?); ice certainly, water possibly, fire maybe, but lightning? eh, not so much. I've always found it more.... i dunno, realistic? I guess? to imagine a sword made of some readily solid material, which is then infused with elemental juice, like a steel sword which is just electrified on command, or one that glows red hot or ice cold. I know in the broad scheme of things, this makes as much sense, but something about it seems more grounded in reality? or at least basic newtonian precepts of physics. Yes, yes, I know that fantasy shouldn't be beholden to science, but I find I don't require such a SEVERE suspension of disbelief if stuff in fantasy adheres to some very primitive, consistent tenants of pseudo-science.
x3 so how exactly is a sword made of water more plausible than lightning? if you want a sciency explanation, imagine that the sword's emitter pushes out a field of tiny - invisible to the naked eye - metal flakes that are all held within a range of eachother by a magnetic field, and electricity arcs between them, keeping it reigned in and functional.
Lightsabers don't make sense though >3>

I'd say water is more plausible than lightning because water has easily graspable material substance. you can put water in a cup, you can't really do that with lightning. that said, both would be terrible to make into weaponry, just... water less terrible. and as i said before, there's no need to get all super sciency on it; if that were the case, all of these would seem silly. But i figure making an item out of a more solid substance and infusing it with elemental properties just makes it slightly less silly.
hmmm is it at all possible to have a sword made of oblivion
