I really hated doing all those 21 portrait studies.. but I can see what I improved most in at the drawing academy.
(obviously also in endurance and consistency)
I think before this .. was like, I thought three dimensionally and could model like it, but I didn't know how to draw three-dimensionally. Obviously I'm a lot more familiar with facial features too... but the real change is in that, imo.

That is absolutely INSANE. I LOVE how you can see the difference between the two, and how you can see just how much you've improved.
i particularly love how you leave your brush strokes visible, it adds nice texture, and more depth, i think.
My only thing is, the ear seems kind of out of place to me. The shape feels sort of stylized.
The details in the face are sharp enough to pull away from the ear since it's not in focus, but it just seems... hmm.
