Here's a walk cycle that i did of a tiger.
The animation is 16 frames long and running at 12 frames per second
Drawn by hand and assembled in flash for the upload.
This was part of a project for uni
A incredibly small part but still
Any comment is appreciated

Thanks for comments. if in future you plan on doing walk cycles again i would recommend watching footage of real life
it seemed to help and i agree the tail is to bouncy i feel it looks like it is made out of elastic.
But while i have you here. you are a great artist i really enjoy you work.
you have a great sense for character design and color.

Thanks, real footage should really help (I animated these things completely out of the blue).
I have been interested in animation since my childhood and wanted to be an animator (but I found out that I'm better in creating concepts and storylines than creating animations).
I'm happy you decided to be an animator; it's such an interesting metier :)

haha i agree. although i do wanna work on concepts and story lines as well, what good is a animator if he has nothing to animate XD
And if you have a interest in animation there is no reason not to dabble in it in your spare time and understanding and studding
movement cant do anything buy help your drawing =]

You are right.
I get in contact with animation here and there but cannot get into the process itself because it is focused in another course (my course is mainly concentrating on the surrounding topics like conceptart, storyboard, character design, product design and illustration).
In my spare time I'm working on a little game project and I'm responsible for all graphical aspects (like the complete design and animation as well). On the one hand it is quite interesting because I can decide the appearance and behaviour of almost everything, but animating it takes so much time (because I'm totally inexperienced), but it's great fun too.
I can truly emphasize my respect for your work.

wow that sounds like a great project. me myself i'm planing a graphic novel i hope to do. Hopefully when you have more stuff
done i will be a bit to see some of your game. it sounds interesting, i look forward to seeing some on your page =]
And my work? hehe im only in my first year so im still rather new. by the end of three years i should be allot better.
If you animate using paper i recommend getting yourself a plastic peg bar. that helps me to no end.

Graphic novels are great (one of my wishes for life is to create a graphic novel (also to write a book, make a movie, create a game and cut an own font [the font is done; book and game are just waiting for enough time to really get into them; novel and movie will hopefully follow one day]).
I hope your spare time allows you to get trough the whole process of creating and finishing your graphic novel someday (but busy times at least allow one to think about the concept what is fun too).
If you have two years left to become an animator, then I'm even more excited about what you will create :)
If the little game I’m working on will be developed enough to be published in the first version I will show some sketches and characters/creatures to illustrate the way of producing it. Maybe there will be a little concept booklet and a diary about its production as well (but I’m not sure about that because it’s far too early to think about it and it's not really clear what will happen to the game).

Haha when it comes to graphic novels your closer than me your work is of a publishable standard. i still need to improve. I'm a bit like you
and want to do a bit of everything. only thing ive done is make a film. well a short film but its going around film festivals so I'm kinda proud
of that.
Thank you I'm working on the story at the moment. hope things turn out good.
And i hope your game dose get published. but remember there's nothing wrong with publishing it yourself. even though its rare things like
minecraft poped up without the backing of a big company.
it sounds like it should be good. i wish you luck

Thanks, I'm still struggling with the combination of characters and scenery (sometimes I don't have enough endurance to define both equally).
A short film is more difficult to make than a full-length movie, because you have to reduce your story to an effective minimum. If you made a good short film, you can be really proud of it.
A good story is the most important thing in my view (there are many well drawn novels with terribly trivial stories). Just take your time to define it, the rest is "just" a question of setting a start point and don't running out of endurance.
At the moment we don't intend to use the help of a bigger company. If one of the games we are working on turns out promising in our eyes, we will create an own little company to produce it for mobile devices first, for download. At the moment we use completely free software and voluntary helpers to create it (we don't have to invest money in the current productions). But the end is still open. We may be programmers and designers, but have no experience in game-programming and game-design - but thanks for your confidence :)

Hehe yea i know what you mean one thing that bugs me about the short films that tend to be shown from my uni.
There all visually stunning but when it comes to story there bland and uninteresting or meaningless and trivial. I hope
to be able to make things look good as well as hit a deeper meaning, feeling or the such.
And sounds impressive how many people have you got on your team? what software you using?

It's quite difficult to create a movie that looks good and has a deep story as well. I think it should all start with a story that has something interesting, new or something shown from another point of view. Then one can consider which effects and visual style is best to enhance the story. A good story often doesn't need many effects while bad stories try to conceal their lacks with stunning visual effects, computer animations and other things which are mostly not needed. At my university the techniques of making a movie (like storyboard, camerawork, lighting ...) are prepared more carefully than the story itself (because developing a very good story would cost more time than available; students who concentrate on their stories often stop after drawing the storyboard, because there is not time left [like my preparations for an animated movie which took 1 year of conceptart and design and I didn’t draw one frame at the end]). But most of our professors demand stories which are not too trivial (one of the first things they ask at the beginning of a new project is "Why do you want to tell this kind of story? What is the meaning you want to show?"). But sometimes students make shorts films which are too confusing or too thought laterally, because they want to create something special at all costs.
Ha, it just sounds like we are many people because we have many games to work on at the same time. Strictly spoken we are only two (in addition some programmer colleagues and some fellow designers who take a look at things here and there; but most content comes from us) that's why we are so terribly slow Sometimes I wish just thinking about things would make them done, because the pure process of creating content takes most time.
But we are only programmer and graphic artist; in the later process we will need someone for the sound effects and music (but that's in the distant future).

Hehe yea i can relate to that. i but i guess we are on the production courses rather than the writing side. i was
disappointed this year when we started a lesson called Narrative strategies, shame it had nothing to say about
creating meaningful narrative. Interesting none the less but not what i had hoped.
Well i wish you all luck, just keep up what your doing and I'm sure what you will end up with will be good.
And on the point of sound I'm sure you can find someone to do sound for you, just make it clear your taking
this seriously give examples of animation and level design and I'm sure you will have tons of people begging
to be involved.
