Uh oh! Look who's got his paws on an amateur radio! What mischief and mayhem will result from this combination??
Well, I needed an icon for my LJ so I took an old familiar pic and added the very radio that I'm currently using to explore the world of HAM Radio. Swifty is seen here yerfing his call sign to the world and letting other operators know he's listening in on the local repeater frequency.
Swift is of course...me.
Thanks for taking a look!

Thanks for chiming in. :)
Someone on LJ gave me the nudge and suggested that I mod my icon to use as a QSL card. The fact that I had a pic of my radio at just about the right angle just played to my advantage.
Unfortunately, for me and my little HT, I don't forsee hitting many far off contacts until I save up the money for a HF rig.
But I do appreciate you stopping by and hope maybe you stick around. :)
KB3PPP clear.

Howdy!
Got a vanity since I posted this pic.
I'm KS3IFT on the airwaves now. Still operating locally on 2m/440, but I've got a used rig now that tosses a bit more wattage now, so I can try my paw at simplexing.

Pleasure to make your acquaintance!
Happy New Year!

That's an awesome vanity. Amazingly my number is the one I got saddled with since the get go.
With moving into a new home in a few months, hopefully, I might finally have the resources and funding finally to set up my own rig after what seems like ever.
I'll probabl have to break out my books again and do some brushing up I'm that much out of practice *Is embarassed*
*Hugs Back*
Glad to meet you as well ^^

So I take It your in 3 land by your call, about 60 - 70 miles due north of where I live now. Although currently I'm visiting my state of origin (MD). I am a transplant to WV. I have visited your page on QRZ (I am currently hating that site due to its poorly written design, and its mismanagement of content. They have lost 4 images of mine). I have been into, the hobby since 79 (although not licensed till 04, due to life getting in the way). I spent my time as a supporting member of several clubs, and collected a vast array of ancient boat anchors (big metal boxes aka tube radios for those who read this and don't know the term). Currently doing everything on solar power, including the laptop. So going to try my hand at psk31 (again a digital mode for those who wont know otherwise) entirely with solar power and batteries. might even try slow scan TV that way. I don't think QRZ has lost all my images yet, so check what's left out before it's gone too. Maybe I will post a field day pic or two from this year on FA just to bore all my watchers who expect animal shots, heheheh. I have only ever met one other furry ham, and unfortunately she moved to the left coast. She used to do Dayton in her personally made fursuit. Very talented. Anyway send me a PM or something sometime. If I get my HF equipment beat in the head enough to work right, perhaps I will meet you on the air sometime.

P.S. Oh and what did you do with your FT=60? I'm partial to Yaesu products.

HyenaGirl?
She and I were/are friends though we've grown out of touch since she moved from Ohio.
I've only had my ticket since 2006 I believe...took classes and memorized the questions enough to pass my General and Extra exams about a year later.
My first purchase was the FT-60 as a very nice and versatile duel band HT. I used it as a HT, as a Base when i was home, and my Mobile Rig when I was out and about traveling. Pretty much all Repeater work with the exception of FurCons where we worked Simplex now and again. I've been saving for a HT Rig, but when the mic jack flaked out on my FT-60, I used my savings to buy an Icom ID-880H as my Base Radio. I was hoping D-Star would expand my reach, but hitting other dead repeaters in other cities isn't much fun. So I use it to talk around locally on the repeaters when other Hams can understand me. I have a hell of a time with microphones and Ham radios. I don't have any of these issues with my fire radio.
Anyway, my FT-60 is relegated to being an expensive Scanner I can take to work and listen to the fire frequencies, weather bands and SkyWarn Nets. Oh yes, I'm Skywarn certified also.
So still saving a couple thousand for an HT Rig, Antenna, Tuner and Power Source so I can make use of my licenses.

And yes I meant HyenaGirl. I miss chatting online, but as I do not have online out where I live, oh well. She probably doesn't remember me though. Not sure if she has a presence on FA
Anyway, here is a pic of her (with me) at Dayton a number of years ago
