Looks like a thief got caught

I can just imagine being a male hero in that kind of world. "Let's see here... I COULD go and rescue the damsel, but really, if I do that, she'll all be haughty over how she could take care of herself and more than likely, given most stories like this today, I'd show up just in time to see her free herself and take on the baddy. Meanwhile, if I sit here and play games, she'll be forced by the narrative to free herself, kill the bad guy, and take on all the responsibilities of being a hero herself. Meh."

Actually, she's the more grateful sort. A heroine has to know how to take care of herself, but also know when to acknowledge when help is needed -- and to be thankful when the cavalry arrives. ;)
