Kira Lioness in an unusually icy North Carolina winter -- looking warm despite the cold and enjoying the fun changes in her habitat.

One must have a mind of winter
To regard the frost and the boughs
Of the pine-trees crusted with snow;
And have been cold a long time
To behold the junipers shagged with ice,
The spruces rough in the distant glitter
Of the January sun; and not to think
Of any misery in the sound of the wind,
In the sound of a few leaves,
Which is the sound of the land
Full of the same wind
That is blowing in the same bare place
For the listener, who listens in the snow,
And, nothing himself, beholds
Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is.

Good point; I hadn't thought of it like that before! Since I know you understand about abused rescue animals, I'll mention that Kira's story is of that ilk. She was crippled when she came to us and had been slated for euthanasia at another facility when one of our founders offered to try to rehabilitate her. She's doing very well now and can walk and romp with barely a hitch. Happily ever after. :)
You can see a lot of fight in those eyes. I'm happy she was able to be saved, it's always nice to hear success stories when there are so many that don't make it- we had a wolfdog that weren't going to make it that ended up living 8 more years and died at the age of 18 of natural causes. I hope that Kira has such a fruitful life too. :)
