Note: if you don’t know what is going on please see the start of this little series.
Another group of creatures that I adore are fish as well as the mythological merfolk and sirens. I used to go diving fairly frequently and fell in love with the ocean, the different colours and shapes, the unique wildlife, it was all so wonderful. One type of fish that I learnt to love are sharks and in particular the grey nurse species. If there is one thing that you do before you die please go diving, find a grey nurse and work up the courage to ‘ride’ it. Just gently grab onto its dorsal fin and occasionally kick to help reduce resistance and it will think that you are a giant remora or something. It will just cruise along and see the world through this giant fish’s eyes, all of the hidden places that you would have never found as well as the experience in general. With you not in control of where you are going it is like watching the most realistic 3D movie in the world... that shit is better than sex. They also don’t mind snuggles that much, just be careful.
With that in mind you can easily see why I wanted to use one of these rare and wonderful creatures as my sona. However the problem with this is my distain for shark finning. When I first joined the fandom I was a lot younger and much more immature and I knew that I would have gotten one or two pictures like this in protest/to raise awareness against this terrible method of fishing that sees (Not joking) hundreds of millions of sharks each year stripped of their fins and tossed back into the water to drown. What is the big deal? They are horrible man eaters and more importantly they aren’t fluffy so they aren’t cute. No, fail. Like snakes they are beautiful creatures that are simply misunderstood. Shark fins don’t actually add any taste to the soup that they are used to make, only texture, but it is still the second highest profitable illegal trade in the world (Right after drugs) and the stubborn people that continue to eat it think that it has mystical powers (Like curing/preventing cancer) when in fact it is actually flooding their bodies with heavy metals.
As you can see, I can rant like that for quite some time. The only think that I can rant about worse than that is fucking killing rhinos for their horns. Let’s not go there. Anyway, I couldn’t use a shark as my main because of the above reason so instead I thought about using a pilot fish but sadly these guys are too closely tied to sharks. So next best thing is the northern pike, these guys have a reputation for being bad ass and best of all they have no ties to sharks or even the sea itself! Everyone wins, right?
Well the thing is that I realised that although I think that fish are beautiful creatures, and don’t eat them because of that reason, others might not have the same mind set. While these are bad ass fish and are known for eating anything smaller than themselves it would be like putting up a flashing neon sign inviting all predy vorephiles in the community to come and have a snack. :/ While I do enjoy a spot of vore it isn’t that high up on my list to justify this. On the other hand I would have also commissioned pictures like this, turning the ‘sport’ of fishing upside down and having the pike catching anthros. :P How would that work? A hamburger in a bear trap? Money on a hook? Magic? I don’t know! Naturally I would also have him being caught as these pictures would be more aimed towards humour than him getting revenge and whatnot and there are so many things that you can do with fishing themed pics.
Anyway, here you have a nameless pike fishing for either some entertainment or dinner while the evil
SBW-Tusachi sneaks up behind him with a similar idea. Once again the wonderful
antihuman drew this wonderful picture so please go fave and comment on the original and when Anti opens for commissions I recommend getting one! Check out the detail in this picture and how expertly Anti designed the pike! Whoever said that fish didn’t make interesting looking furs?
Do I regret not using this idea/species? Not so much the pike but certainly the grey nurse or the pilot fish. I think that out of all of the characters in this series I would have been happiest with either of those two representing myself. :(

Also if anyone would like more information on shark finning/a nonbiased view of them or otherwise would like to see one of the most noteworthy documentaries of all time please rent out Sharkwater. This guy went above and beyond the call of duty and did some amazing shit, including uncovering an illegal finning organisation in one of the shark ‘safe zones’ and putting them out of business. It is a heart moving doco and will change your view on sharks. Sadly it also kind of explains that they are going to go extinct in a few years. :( Heaven and earth are being moved for Pandas but not these guys cause they aren’t cute and fluffy.

Quite educational little text on sharks. The estimated number of casualties due to finning is about 96.000.000 the total number including targeted fishery and bycatch is 200.000.000 The madness of this number is revealed if one does some math and discovers that this would equal eradication the populations of FRance the UK and Germany in a single year.
The heavy metal is actually a salt. As if ordinary mercury wasnt toxic enough this stuff (CH3Hg) can enter the brain and has a half life of 18 years and is neuro toxic.
If the sharks will actually go extinct they will at least get some sort of revenge on us. The oceans will collapse and thus the concentration of oxigen in the atmosphere will drop from 19% to 7% and our lunghs need something close to 11%.
You are right shark water is a very impressive documentry. Another organisation worth mentioning would be sharkproject. They do some impressive work and are the most cost-efficient NGO on earth.

It wouldn't work out. There are a ehole lot of ecologic functions which can only be filled by sharks. Though I am not a certified expert, this statement is confirmed by marine biologists from california to south africa so there must be something to it.
Beseides in some areas where sharks have been fished off completely everything broke down, the reefs were gone within a year and the respective island was close to being eroded away by the waves (since the reefs wern't there anymore) In the end the shark fishery was the bigges economic failure of the local population ever. And on the other hand small islands like the Maledives actually managed to boost their economy by protectiong sharks.

This is my favourite of your alternate forms.
I don't see why it would have been bad for you to have a shark as your avatar. You're saying you would have been constantly reminded about the plight of sharks and felt bad about it?
Also, what was that about vore? Were you saying that a fish like this would have been a target of vore-predators? I don't see how that follows. He's just as edible as anything else.

I thought that the mamba would have been your preference and this was a close second but I'm glad that you like the idea/design/picture.
Yes indeed, sadly I would be reminded about their plight on a daily basis, or so I thought. I probably would have outgrown that and really enjoyed having a grey nurse as my sona but sadly it wasn't meant to be.
Yes again, while practically every creature is edible in the fandom I thought that him being a species that was actually eaten in the real world quite frequently would have made him a more likely target.
