School has been keeping me busybusy, but it's also helped me accomplish a goal I've had for a loooong time--making an animatable Keovi model!
The assignment was to make a low-poly (2000 triangles max) game character, and make up for the low resolution with effective texturing. No bump or normal maps allowed, just a 512 texture map. I modeled in Maya, did about 80% of the coloring in ZBrush, added fur and cloth textures in Photoshop, and rendered in Maya with Mental Ray.
I also worked with a friend to get the model all rigged up and weight painted, so now I can do little animation tests with it, eee! It deforms surprisingly well for such a low poly count, but I'm planning to make it even better, now that the assignment is over and I don't need to follow such a tight budget.
I don't have his eyelids rigged yet, so he's a little cracked out here :p But! That will change, and I want to make some blendshapes for basic expressions, as well. All in due time..
At any rate! This was super duper fun, and I'm eager to make a couple other characters when the semester is over.

Heh, looks like he's ready to go into a game to teach us how to play! Jaunty fellow ain't he?
You did the coloring in ZBrush huh? Interesting - did you have to set up a UVW mapping for it before you imported from Maya to ZBrush, or was ZBrush able to handle the mapping alright on its own? (In a lot of 3d software I've tried, I tended to stick with modeling because UVW mapping for texture work was such a nightmare. XD)

I like ittttttt :D lLow poly game models are an absolute pain to hide the geometry on. You did an excellent job with the constraints at hand (smashing job with the muzzle in particular - very professional). Also, love the texture - that pattern on the shirt really makes it pop out; I have a difficulty with detailing patterns and grain, and my textures have been regrettably flat as a result.
Can't wait to see updated versions of the model, if you choose to upload! <3
