~TLDR/trainfaggotry ahead~
This is just part of A-2 Interlocking on the west side of Chicago, whose skyline hovers in the background. Still controlled by a tower operator who lines up switches and sets signals for the hundreds of trains that pass through here every day, this is one of the busiest rail junctions in the country. Four tracks of Metra's Union Pacific West Line (former Chicago & Northwestern) cross three tracks of Metra's Milwaukee District. At one time, four *more* tracks of the Pennsylvania Railroad's "Panhandle" route entered the junction at the far right. Signals of C&NW, Milwaukee Road and Pennsy vintage are all in place here, while movable-point diamonds and a few double-slip switches ensure speed and flexibility at this important crossing.

Heh, yeah. The only electrified lines in this area (around Chicago) are the Metra Electric District and the South Shore Line. There are some pretty complex interlockings like this on the Metra Electric line too. But the real place to go in the US for electrified railways is the Northeast Corridor, from Washington DC to New York to Boston.
