The Dagda is one of the many High Kings of Ireland. His name means "the good god" in Irish. This does not necessarily refer to his moral goodness, just that he is accomplished in many things. He is one of the Tuatha de Danann, the god-race that came to Ireland from some other world around 9,000 to 6,000 years ago.
Though the Dagda is not usually featured in the form of a stag, the first time I encountered him, it was as an anthro red elk stag, so that's how I think of him. Here he is pictured with his cauldron, from which no army could go away unsatisfied. In the corners are his two boars; one is forever growing, and the other is forever roasting, and no amount of consumption will diminish them. On the same note, he also has a pair of fruit trees that bear every fruit in the world all year round. I didn't draw those, however.
I'm very pleased with this. I think I'll activate the prints feature on my DA for this when I submit it there.
[Edit] I've activated the print feature on this piece over at my DA. 9"x12" prints for $20

Well, in regards to horses, his parents raised and bred horses all his life, so I suppose the whole anthro horse thing is too weird for him, especially considering the sexualized nature everything usually has here. As for his objection to other hooved anthros, I really have no idea.
eh? I didn't mean that as a "coolIwannaaskyoustuff" exclamation, just that it's awesome you were told the stories by your parents and grandparents. While I might read the stories in a book because I'm interested in them, the fact that you were told the stories makes them all the more meaningful (to you, I would imagine).
I wish our culture was more of an oral storytelling society.

Oh, okay. I'm glad that I had my family to tell me stories because it helped me out alot in my studies and gave me a more active imagination.
If our culture was more orally based in its stories, I think it would make kids more creative, but really, we're too stuck on facts instead of myths and fantasy.

The only Celtic god named Dagda I know of is from "The Lost Years of Merlin" which could easily smooth some rough edges of the legend. I'd not thought anyone else had heard the name until I happened across this image. It's pretty intriguing, both the drawing and the information you provided.
