Sorry, can't help but think Aries gets too preachy here and also comes across as a bit of a hypocrite. I know Saurus is supposed to be the one villain with redeeming qualities and a likeability factor, but one should probably not be rooting for the villain in a superhero story. lol

I guess it's probably needed to get through to Saurus for the Second Chance comic, but lol, a lot of the times I tend to root for the villains in different things.

Thing is, I can't get behind any of Aries's "protect the innocent and do the right thing" speech because not twenty minutes earlier, he was standing there allowing his teamate Gemini to beat the crap out of a drunk kid whose only wrongdoing was get a little mouthy while drunk, and also allowing him to beat the crap out of the drunk kid's friends who only wanted to defend their friend from some guy beating him up.

That's why I can't get behind anything Aries said here, because considering his actions, it all ends up sounding hypocritical.

The drunk kid you're defending has likely gotten a lot more than mouthy, considering he /did/ pick the fight. It's not Gemini's fault that he could fight back. Bullies deserve what they get.

I'm not exactly defending the kid getting mouthy, I'm saying that he did not start the fight (notice the kid jumped in first to try to defend the woman Gemini was being aggressive towards) and he drunkenly insulted Gemini, because honestly, whywould he accept Gemini's apology? The kid was not a bully, he was a drunk that got a bit too mouthy, that doesn't make him a bully or criminal.

The worst part was not Gemini beating them all up, since he's unstable as hell. The worst part was Aries letting it happen because he feels they deserved to get beat up. These guys are superheroes, they should not be beating up civilians, and it was messed up that Aries, who at that point was one of the most responsible members of the team, allows such things to happen. Hence why I feel he comes across a a hypocrite here.

Sorry, Gemini apologized in his mild phase and bought them all drinks. They decided to re-start the fight. Again, if you pick a fight you have NO RIGHT to complain if your target can wipe the floor with you. Besides, Gemini WAS restrained -- he only dislocated things and put them back in alignment when he was done. Consider it a lesson to the stupid.

Also, being drunk IS NOT AN EXCUSE for getting away with crap.

I own bar myself, so I do agree being drunk is no excuse, but I do know being drunk lowers inhibitions and brain smarts. Now, remember Gemini was being violent towards a woman, which the kid saw and tried to revent, and suddenly Gemini comes to the kid like they're best buddies and offering to buy him a drink? For all the kid knew, Gemini was mocking him.

Also, dislocating things and putting them back together doesn't excuse the beating. It was worse for the kid's friends because they never did anything wrong. They saw their friend getting attacked and tried to help him. I think the part that gets to me the most is Aries thinking those other kids deserved to get beat up when their only action was trying to protect a friend.

It's why I can't take Aries seriously anymore when he starts talking like he does in this page.

Hey, they were willing to join in -- they did do something wrong. far as I'm concerned -- and so is Aries -- they learned a little lesson. if Gemini had started /breaking/ things, he would have stepped in. Sorry, but i have ZERO sympathy for someone who gets drunk, does something stupid, and then pays for it.

Again, it stems to the fact that these people are superheroes and like Aries says in this page, their duty is to protect civilians. A duty he completely failed to accomplish by letting his unstable teammate beat up a bunch of kids for petty reasons.

And I say they willingly lost control of their actions and picked a fight. Gemini taught them a well-deserved lesson, and I hope they learn it.

I'm not defending the drunk kid. I am defending their friends, because again, the only thing they saw was their friend getting beat up, the only thing they tried to do was try to help him out. How can anybody not see that? If you walk in on some random guy beating up your friend, what would be your first reaction? Try to help your friend, or stand there and say "Oh, he probably did something to deserve getting beat up"?

He cruises bars looking for 'legitimate excuses' to get into fights and from the look of things his friends follow him along...just in case. They are as guilty as this skell and Ares' instincs were spot-on in not stepping in. Innocent? Victims? These guys are anything but.

Anyway, the principle of the thing is that if you see a friend get attacked by someone, your instincts would be to try to help him. It's the right thing to do, he's a friend and you care about his well-being. These kids getting beat up for trying to defend a friend was all sorts of wrong, and Aries condoning it was plain bad writing after the characterization we got, which makes it look even worse when the overall comic is otherwise quite well written.

My mother taught me how to read since before I even got to first grade, and I have been reading comic books all my life. I love superheroes, so I guess you can say I am a bit of a purist. What Aries says in his speech in this page is everything I would love in a good superhero comic. But it gets shot to hell when he decides to let people get beat up, especially people who were technically doing what he does, which is helping someone else. These guys are superheroes! They should not get to choose which civilians they help, and they should not allow civilians to be harmed for something as stupid as "he said something mean"!

Just a question too, out of curiosity. Since we're differing in opinion and you think these kids were heinous and deserved everything they got, let's pretend that they were still there when the villains attack. Do you think Aries should stand by and let the kids be attacked or killed by the villains because of what they did earlier? I am really, genuinely curious about what your opinion in this would be.

There is a difference in teaching someone a lesson -- which is what happened here -- and allowing someone to get killed; the fact that you actually believe one means the other only proves you're wrong. And you KEEP MISSING THE POINT: Gemini for the first confrontation BACKED DOWN. THEN, he tried to make peace; the guy went looking for a fight. And no -- if my friend starts a fight, I let him finish it. If I see him in a fight, I BREAK IT UP. This buttwipe's friends jumped in to help beat someone up without knowing the situation.

How am I missing your points when your point is basically saying that a superhero can be allowed to cause physical harm to anyone who acts says something they don't like? I'm not excusing the drunk kid's behavior, he clearly mouthed off when he shouldn't have. Now, to an extent, I don't blame him mouthing off to Gemini, because he deserves it, no one in their right mind would accept a super friendly approach from a guy who looked like he was about to beat up a woman just a few minutes ago. The ironic thing? This would very probably never had happened had Gemini not tried approaching the kid in a super friendly way, which again, the kid saw this guy looking like he was going to beat up a woman, so why should he trust him? The kid was just walking by and Gemini went to him, not the other way around. Gemini's good personality may have had good intentions, but sometimes the worst situations can come from a good intention.

But again, what baffles me most is just how different our opinions are regarding the kid's friends. From what we see, they never saw him picking a fight or anything of the sort, and for all they know, Gemini started it. How come I see this as they trying to help their friend who they see is being attacked and you see it as them knowing their friend is bad and they just want to gang up on someone to beat them down? It's just plain odd.

As for Aries, again, I hold superheroes in high regard. It's simple morals, the principle of the thing. Aries just basically said that he will allow someone to be punished if they say something he thinks is mean or nasty. Superheroes should not do that. Let me put it this way. Let's say Superman is flying around the city and he sees a man being mugged in an alley, and he recognizes him as a man who earlier called Lois Lane a "stupid bitch". So because the man called Lois that, he decides to not intervene and let the guy get beat up by the mugger. How does that look? Because Aries basically did something just like that.
