Here's a totally original Look Left song. Wrote this over the winter and recorded it just yesterday. Really proud of this. The ammount of nagging and nit picking was astronomical. Hopefully the product was worth it.
Short and sweet. Trying to be less frilly. Not overuse vocal harmonies, not repeat stuff for the simple sake of repeating it.
Vocals, acoustic guitar, mixing: Me
Bass:
shiacoft
Electric guitar: Andrew C.
Lyrics:
Become
Become undone
Reset the world and try to make it what you want
When you come down, when you come down, when you come
re-write your situation
Chorus:
Who has the right to try and tell you what is better
To each his own but what if they can not consent
Your right to life my right to live I’m comin’ down
Become
Become your opinion
Expect the same if you think you know what is wrong
When you come down, when you come down, when you come
Bring your best explanation
Chorus
Solo
Around here you have the choice
to speak in the crowd or get drowned out by the noise
Comin’ down comin’ down it is your flag to hoist
you alone, you alone, it’s your decision alone
Chorus
What do you think it's about? I usually don't put a specific meaning behind my lyrics, but I did with this one. Actually, I discovered the meaning about halfway through writing it. That happens some times.

I'm a big fan of minimalism in vocals, so I love that aspect. I like it a lot, everything really comes together great in this one. I can tell you spent a lot of time on it.
It made me think of people who have such high opinions of what they believe that they just can't let others live their own lives, like it's an offense against them that someone has different opinions.
The line "to speak in the crowd or get drowned out by the noise" confused me a little. It's hard to speak in a crowd without getting drowned out, so it seems kind of like a no-win situation. Was that what was intended?
Same with the line "To each his own but what if they can not consent". I thought about it for a while, but I just couldn't think of what that could mean.

Huh. I wrote that wrong. supposed to be speak OUT in the crowd, the idea being that you're gonna have to yell, but you can be heard if you try hard enough.
The song doesn't have any "solution" or even suggestions. It just kinda says that things are complicated, and even impossible to solve sometimes.
Yeah I put a bunch of time and effort into this one and I'm glad the result was worth it. Thanks for listening ^^

Impressive as always!
How does it compare to when I read the lyrics? Well I put on my best Pepper impression, threw in a bit of Look Left sounding instruments (i.e. bass and electric guitar) and played it in my head. It sounded like what happens when you try to sing a song remembering only the lyrics, but you’ve completely forgotten the rhythm of the actual song. Errm... it was quite a chaotic head-band (ha!) to say the least.
The lines I imagined to be sung faster turned out to be slower, and vice versa. You manage to skilfully speed through some of those lines faster than I can even read them XP. Anyway, great song; very Look Left-ish and a pleasure to listen to. :3
