Yes, they are -- and Adeline actually IS a hermaphrodite. But in an interesting twist brought to you by her bizarre creator, it means she can CHOOSE which sex she wants to be seen as, though she does possess the parts of both sexes, they're just hidden (because it's a cartoon and I can do that!). She prefers being known as female (hence referring to her as "she"), but she's been a guy a few times in her life, and the standard "boobs AND dick!" hermaphrodite every once in a blue moon.
