From 2004.
A catperson, or "neko" if you wish. The details are clearly based on Yuffie from FF7 -- that was in fact the inspiration. Someone on FF.net once wrote a fanfic about Yuffie being turned into a neko. (And why were all post-FF7 fanfics set two years after Meteor?)
There were a few flaws in the execution of the sketch, but those things just happen. This was my first experiment in what I call 'double negative' shading. Sketched, colored in reverse, then scanned and inverted according to the YCC spectrum.
Err... describing the process is a bit of a mouthful, so if you're curious about it, just check out the visual aid in my dA Scraps gallery.
The results were so unusual that I simply had to try this experiment again later. And again, and again... hehe. By now the method is one of my signature techniques.
All in all it took about four hours.
