More moments from my Equestria dreamscape. With my flying lessons. Carousel getting her business up and going. Petina trying to get her writing career started, and other assorted business it suddenly dawned on Petina that the Canterlot Music Festival was fast approaching and none us had anything appropriate, in Petina's opinion, to wear to the event. Even worse we were planning to attend three different venues during the Festival. The Octavia's performance with the Canterlot Symphony opening night. The Afternoon Palace Garden Recital two days later, and then the Scratch concert the following evening.
Each one of these events in Petina's eyes, with Carousel's approval, required separate outfits for them. So without a moment to waste it was off to Carousel Boutique! Now Petina and Rarity have become fairly good friends since we arrived in Ponyville, and Carousel has actually started running some deliveries for the busy unicorn seamstress. However except for one bit of commission work by Rarity for some unused covert operations wear http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6492221/ this was the first time that we employed her talents as a seamstress.
Of course Rarity agreed with Petina that each of the events would require a different ensemble. If we were to make a good, proper impression at the festival. Of course I was dreading the final bill, but Rarity just waved a hoof at my concern. "Darling, one can not put a price on being fabulous! It just makes it vulgar. Worry not about the bill we'll work "something" out." That was what I was afraid of. Especially with Petina conspiring in the scheme.
So I got to spend an afternoon cooling my hooves in Carousel Boutique while Carousel and Petina discussed fashion options with Rarity. Fortunately for us Rarity was able to "throw together" several outfits for the two mares that only required a modest amount of tailoring and alteration. For most of the day I just sat there. Made approving sounds as the mares went about trying out different outfits, and helped hold things for Rarity.
For the Symphony Petina chose an emerald green silk dress that flattered her very nicely. Of course Petina needed to get a corset to wear it, so just add that to the ever growing final bill. Rarity was able to stitch Petina's cutie mark on to her dress. The dress also came with matching green silk boot/ gloves trimmed in pale green silk. Carousel settled on a dress of palest lilac satin. Add another corset. Kaching! The lilac was so pale that certain light it almost looked white. It also came with matching boot/ gloves.
For the recital all the mares agreed that saddles would be wonderful for what was planned to be a sunny day in the palace gardens. And hats! They would need hats!. Petina chose a rather extravagant wide brim cobalt blue creation that had plumes almost as tall as she was, but it seemed to work nice the navy blue saddle with pale yellow floral bordering. The saddle was complimented by what Rarity referred to as a saddle blanket of shimmering ultramarine with indigo embroidered vine pattern on it that flowed over Petina's flanks.
Carousel decided on something more frilly and rose pink. She also settled on a small cap of fuchsia with yellow plumes. Her saddle was of varying shades of carmine and pink and a small frilly train that just barely covered her flanks. She thought about adding little fuchsia booties to it but decided to go bare hoof for the afternoon. Besides she likes feeling the earth under her hooves.
From the literature the festival provided, and Rarity's own experience of a concert in Manehattan, Scratch's performance was a completely different style of event. In a way it was sort of steampunk proto-rock concert and was quite a hedonistic, loud, theatrical, and extravagant presentation. It was generally attended by the younger more avant-garde and experimental members of the arts and music community. In fact many in the traditional music community were rather put off by Scratch's performances. They thought that the blue maned unicorn mare's shows were rude, vulgar, scandalous, and an insult to "real musicians and composers" throughout Equestria. After all what musician uses steam engines, hammers, steam whistles and other assorted industrial machinery to make music! Why you practically have to wear earplugs at one of her so called performances! And all those dancers, singers and performers on stage with her. Dancing and gyrating in ways that practically puts the audience under a spell and causes them to get out of their seats and dance and do all kinds of things that they would usually be embarrassed to do in public. Petina was "really" looking forward to it.
Needless to say the mares decided to take a radically different approach to the outfits for Scratch's concert. Petina looked like an airship crewmember/ pirate on shore leave with her goggles, leather jacket, matching boots, and silk scarf. Also she decided she'd spike her mane for the performance to give herself a more roguish appearance. Carousel went for a very snug, short black leather dress that was contrasted by saddle of deep red with silver trim. On her head she wore a black bridle. On either side of the bridle was a loop of silver beads that gave the impression of reins. She also select long black leather boots to go with the ensemble.
All the while this was happening I was trying to keep a rough total of the bill in my head, and trying not to panic at what I was coming up with for a final tally. I figured if we were lucky we'd only be in debt to Rarity for a "few" years. At this point the seamstress turned to me and said. "So Skybrush. What are you planning to wear to the Festival?" Ooops! Well throw those calculations out the window as all three of mares closed in on me.

Yes the saddles are cute. Although as
Tom_Clowder noted when he saw Carousel's outfit for the Scratch show. Oh Carol, you're tendencies are showing.

Petina wears green!
The goggles would look better on Sky Brush, but I doubt you'll get away with so little. (Next post?)
Congratulations on restoring your scanning abilities.

Well knowing Rarity she won't ask for much....at least maybe not as much as Skybrush is dreading.
Also looking forward to what Those three will come up with for him. Petina and Carousel seem to have really good fashion sence so now doubt Skybrush is gonna end up wearing something dashing.

And you're "just" dreaming these details... I have a hard time conceptualizing this sort of thing when I'm awake. Mostly I just keep adding bits and pieces until I think it looks decent enough.
I've always liked girls in dresses, so those first two are downright amazing to me. Very pretty!
I also hope you brought enough 5 Hour Energy with you to your next dreamscape session. The first two to stay awake through, the last just to keep up.

Yep, Most of all the stuff you see posted here on FA is from my dreams, and when I start sketching it the visuals and the memories can become quite clear.

I have absolutely no doubt that many of the stallions in Manehatten will be relentlessly pursuing either one or both of these lovely ladies. Their outfits will garner more business for Rarity when the girls tell other mares where they got them. One thing though, leather? I would have thought the ponies would never use actual animal hide. Also, steampunk ponies? Wheeeeee! Love it. Gotta wonder what Scratch's performance would actually sound like. Is it anything like Abney Park?
One thing though, leather?
Actually it is something of paradox for the ponies. They do not raise animals for their hides, but leather, especially at their technology level is so essential for so many tools and devices in their daily lives. Ponies by nature are generally not hunters either so they trade with the griffins for hides. In fact there is a dream post I want to do that revolves around some griffins coming to Ponyville specifically to negotiate a deal for hides.
The ponies seem to have a rather Japanese attitude toward leather. So long as they don't have to kill the animal and tan the hides themselves they are okay with paying someone else for the effort. However almost every pony can instinctively tell if a hide is from a pony. there are stories of tribes that tried to pass off dead pony hides. Those tribes are generally no longer around.

Those outfits are amazing! But then, they are originals by Rarity.
And I love these lines:
At this point the seamstress turned to me and said. "So Skybrush. What are you planning to wear to the Festival?" Ooops! Well throw those calculations out the window as all three of mares closed in on me.
Poor Baron, cornered by three lovely mares.

Baron, you don't have to wear anything, just say your taking Applejacks lead. Now, look for an opening, be casual, maybe ask to look at some fabric choices near the door and when the oppurtunity presents itself, BOLT!!!!! As for working out the bill, be sure you specify what you with NOT do in deciding the terms. Designwise, I actually like the top two, but then again, I'm a bit of a sucker for formal wear these days.
Very lovely indeed! The dresses are of course elegant and I imagine they'd be gorgeous in shimmery colors!
The outfits for the Scratch concert are naturally daring and yummy. ^_^ Petina rocks well that look, actually. And I imagine saddles and bridles are kind of the equivalent of kink-wear over in Equestria. >.> Now I'm wondering what these outfits would look like with their wearers in their 'normal' forms.
Did Rosemary ever find her way into that dreamscape? I can't recall if you've said so or not. (But that tail must be truly epic there if she does find herself there!)

I wouldn't put it past Petina to try and sneak someone in as a pony, but she faces a double-whammy when it comes to any one from your other dreamscapes -- not only Celestia (whom I suspect is far more aware of such attempts than any pony realizes) but having to explain to the likes of Carol how she can share a dream with Petina and her friend Baron. Have you revisited Carol's setting to find out?
Now some random person with no obvious connection to the three of you, left somewhere to make their own way instead of being escorted, and it might look like another stray. (Don't suggest this to Petina.)

Wow, these are amazing outfits! There's plenty to like in each one. The dresses for Octavia's performance are simply lovely, they have a Southern antebellum feel to them. I like Petina's hat for the recital outfits, though I have to say that Carol's saddle is quite a dainty little thing. I would even say it's a bit more scandalous than her bridled outfit for Scratch's concert, but that's my "wearing clothes is the norm" cultural bias showing. Still, you'd think that even in a culture where not wearing clothes is the norm, wearing clothes that draw attention to certain parts of the body would be more questionable than not wearing clothes at all, but maybe that's just that bias talking again.

No, I do not think that you are odd to think that way. Because in some ways that is exactly why ponies will wear certain types of garments despite the fact that they will often go around in public au natural all the time. To certain extent even in humans this is true. This why I believe that some garments seem to arouse such strong responses in us. Not only do they often accentuate certain parts of the body, but they are often perceived as sending unspoken signals of intent by the wearer and wearers authority, wealth, profession and other preferences.

It would be interesting though to see what a pony would think of Carousel's recital outfit. To me, it's more of the equivalent of wearing a fancy yet very short skirt, but to Equestrian eyes, it might be something entirely different.
Either way, I think Carousel would probably be somewhat amused that she can wear such a thing to so formal an event. At Scratch's concert, shocking clothing is to be expected to a degree (still, darling, a bridle? What if the Princesses attend? Wait, scratch that. Celestia might actually be amused, if only by everypony else's shocked reactions), but not one of the more "respectable" events.

I can rather vividly imagine that very last scene you wrote of xD
You better be wearing a proper tophat for the most formal of those, or I'll be dissappoint :3 xD
Also, I didn't know you knew so much about, well, clothing and colours and similar. It very much looks like you know exactly what you're doing here xD
And finally; after rereading that section about when Petina got those black skin-tight thingies for herself and the two princesses... Do you know what Luna ended up using hers for? I recall you said she decided to keep it :3
Not to mention, what is Petina using it for? I bet she kept hers too. xD

Playing the theme song from Jaws would not be inappropriate.

Well take a look at my most recent posting for the answer to that question.

Well I don't really think I am that fashionable. I just fake it good. Since I have a strong interest in history, and fashion is part of history in my book it has just kind of rubbed off. That and living with Smudge has helped it a lot since she has done a bit of sewing in her past. I guess this stuff just stuck in my subconscious. Also I have a decent sense of color theory from all my years of art and working as a frame designer for a frame/ art store.

I am not certain what exactly Luna has done with hers but Petina and Rarity have heard rumors of servants walking into her private quarters to find her standing in front of a mirror with it on looking at herself with a rather impish smile on her face. As far as Petina goes I know she has worn it once to club in Canterlot while on a "business trip".
