Song number 5 in the Silver Soul album project.
This one is for
shelby. He sent me a note, with a story about his feelings, something very close and personal to him. This is what I pulled from his emotions, his thoughts that he shared with me.
Shelby, even after someone moves on, their presence can be felt in our lives by the paths they influenced us in while they were with us. You may not be able to go to them for advice any more, but in a way they are already still with you, like an afterimage applied directly into your memories.
We all long for the past, for that I believe is human nature; it's much easier to look backwards and see what we've lost than it is to look forward and see what we've yet to gain. Someone will come along for you, I'm sure of it. Hang in there, horse; from one pony to another, you have my shoulder.

I have to say this is pretty remarkable. Believe me, I do not say that often. This has a lot of emotional color without being cliché, and its very easy to try too hard to be emotional and have it come out sounding cliché, but this is really nice. Do you have sheet music for this? I would love to play it sometime myself. Thanks for posting this.
When I was in eleventh grade, a good friend of mine was driving to Knoxville to start a band with his family. On the way, a drunk driver ran a red light and killed him in a head-on collision. I knew him for only a year, but he was one of the best friends I'd ever had, and I never got a chance to tell him how much he meant to me. We would spend days with nothing but packs of sharpie markers and our imaginations, planning what we were going to draw on the walls of his room. Tributes to other friends, bands we liked, dreams we had all covered those four walls.
While listening to this, I can see the two of us drawing on the walls, me playing my guitar and him telling me what I could do to make that riff better, playing video games, watching TV, telling stories...
But at the same time, I can see the accident as if I were there. I can see his wake on the beach. His mother crying. Our friends giving our eulogies and sharing stories of our favorite times with him, how we met him, the plans we had...
Thank you so much for this. Your music has actually moved me to tears remembering an old friend in ways my own music could never give him justice. Thank you.

I'v only ever been truly affected by two deaths in my entire life.... I didn't know either of them personally, but they were both able to turn my world upside down.
I can't even fathom what it would be like to lose someone close to you. Shelby, I wish you the best and hope that you make it through okay.

You know Flare, this is why I haven't been listening to your music for a long time....And only started doing so again. It's a bit hard to handle all the movement tracks like this create in me...Yes that was a compliment :) It's just that , probably like you, I can be very emotionally involved and intense. Also your words to Shelby are kind and wise. I lost a friend to cancer once, watched him slowly fade away, he was 18. I regret to say that I was a coward (I was about his age), I couldn't go to his funeral. I haven't even seen him in the months before his death. I haven't really forgiven myself for that since (this was almost 10 years ago).
Far different in a way, but also in the past few years a lot of relationships important to me just disappeared. Your music moves me and your words inspired me :). Thanks!
