a quick short story for this thing

I had seen him only briefly during the star festival. Defying my own antisocial nature, I had decided to head down to the street fair, thinking that if I was going to be staying in Japan I might as well enjoy the culture. So, it was as I was passing a ramen stand that I saw him. A somewhat chubby tanuki sat on the middle, wearing a red sakura print jacket. In one hand, he expert wielded a pair of chopsticks over a steaming bowl of soup. In the other rested the handle of a large bottle of sake. I stood staring for second as I watched him eat and drink. All the while he ate, he bore an expression that was hard to describe. The best word that could apply was lost. Whenever he looked at something, he didn’t seem to actually see it. He seemed to just look beyond everything, as if he was elsewhere. It was as I observed this distanced stare that I spontaneously drew up my courage. I swept aside the emblazoned curtains and sat next to the melancholy raccoon. He glances briefly at me as I order a bowl of beef ramen. He returns to his noodles as I start on my own, creating a long, mildly slurpy silence. Seeing as he’s not about to say anything, I decide to start a conversation.
“So, you make any whishes this year.”
“Neh, I don’t go for that anymore.” He replied curtly; his voice slightly slurred
“Really? Why?” I say curiously
“To many went unanswered.” He shot back
“Maybe there was a reason…”I returned
He bleeringly stared at me for a second and downed an enormous swig of his drink.
“Well, if that’s the case, then I guess itsa good thing I quit.”
“Maybe you were just wishing for the wrong thing.”
Then before he could shoot back another slurred reply, I swung around and planted a kiss square on his lips. Before he can fully realize what’s happened, I scribble my name and number on a napkin, and slip out of the booth. I glance back as he regains his composure and chases after me for a second. He loses me in the crowd and stares blankly at the napkin in his hand. I may have known for mere minutes, but I gotta say, I kinda fell hard for that mysterious tanuki. I can only hope that I made a good enough an impression for him to call that number.
