My art muse who was the most talented person in our IRC channel in 2004-2009 vanished one day. She gave me some guidance and encouragement when I was first starting out, and it was never quite as gratifying after she left when I didn't have anyone left to try to impress. Every couple of years I'd remember her, ask chat refugees if they knew what happened to her, do a little digging, assume she died, give up
I FOUND HER. I could never find her DA account (she deleted it) but a mutual friend's old account was following her even older account that she forgot about, and it linked to her Livejournal with her other pseudonym that she was still using, and it turns out she was still alive and had 100,000+ followers for drawing gacha game fanart
I said hi and she went "hiii! I have no idea how you found me but I'm glad art worked out for you :)" and then I told her how I found her, and then she deleted the remaining accounts and stopped talking. So that was kind of worse than just wondering. I guess the hope was she'd see the 20 years of effort she inspired and be like "wow I'm honored and very VERY proud of you" but it wasn't a big thing, really
But she forgot about the FA account she started and only uploaded 2 pictures to. I hold and cherish the final fragment
