Hello everyone! Just posting a little something I made a while back.
Back in late 2007 when I was first thinking of Jake and Beta's world, I designed models for both Jake and Beta so that I wouldn't have to Frame-by-Frame animate the episodes. Well... those models are kinda outdated. Beta's kinda ran into Uncanny Valley problems... o_o
So I started up again! Beta is the first model I'm making with my new flash output style (which was designed to be more like my pictures). Overall she's more or less assembled, but she still has a few problematic areas in her design. Her legs cause the biggest problems. I want her boots to be very thick in length and width, and when she has her legs straight they collide into one another. I've extended her hips to counter that, but it's still... not right... and her hips are already reaching its limit. Other issues involve how to manage her ears and a few other problems with her head. :D Any advise is appreciated!
The goal of my models are not to be lazy but to be efficient in output. If I plan to animate more than one episode a year, I need to take some form of shortcuts while trying not to give up quality.
Best case scenario: These models when animated look like they came out of Wakfu (Great French show!)
Worst case: ... On second thought let's not get into that XD
As a whole, I like the results, but it will be tricky and time consuming process to make more models. Animating like Wakfu is a very tiresome process. Furthermore, creating entire 360 degree turn based figures on a 2D surface can get really complicated very fast. In some ways it seems as if Frame-by-Frame would be easier, so I'm shuffling back and forth whether to go with one or the other. Any advice on that would also be appreciated. :)
Animating characters on a single perspective, the way most flash animators use, is a terrible pet peeve of mine. It gets the job done for sure, but I find it lacking in aesthetic value most of the time. So I'm trying very hard to choose frame-by-frame or Wakfu tweens. For the sake of argument I'm asking it in the fashion of one or the other. I know I can combine the two, but as a whole which is better to invest in?
AND if I do in fact combine, how well will the two mask into one another so that the audience can't tell when I change from one to the other.

PS: Her dangling hair would be done frame-by-frame regardless, given the fact it moves like ribbons. So I didn't add them to the model itself.
