well played! i had doubts about this comic at first, but it's turning out to be quite the pleasant surprise! your care for a well paced plot within the comic shows, and it'd subtle pacing allows for huge surprises like this!

So she's either intelligent or parroting. Even if it's just parroting, like others have stated, it could mean sentience a little further down the road of evolution of her species. Or probably she is sentient now, but just doesn't know anything and has to learn it little by little. You could pull that simpsons trick like in that episode where homer was in the nuthouse and saw that native american guy who had a reputation for sitting there never talking, then homer said hello and the guy said hello back, and everyone gasped, and the native said "What? Nobody ever talked to me...". lol
