My belated Valentine's day contribution.
I came up with this on Sunday. Apparently it takes more than two days to draw something like this (especially when juggling homework and play practice).
I really need to put EFFORT into stuff more often though. Gotta say. XP
This is Berk.
Our roses have about twenty seven extra thorns, and if you smell chocolate, chances are you're about to end up dinner for a Snaptrapper.
Here, brotherhood is a bunch of bruises, friendship is a set of matching battle scars...
And love...
Well, love- is kind of a brawl of its own.

All three of us knew how to party. XD
I guess you don't need a lot of people if they're good people. :)
And... without your intervention, I would've found another way to slack off. Intermittent slack-offerage is part of my process. XD In fact, I tend to do it far less when someone's watching me-- which is part of why I'd ever livestream in the first place. XD

Considering I have seen how much you slack off while people are watching, that is a scary thought. ; )
My brain works the same way thought. This is why I eventually started studying in the library when I really need to get stuff done. It makes me feel like people would know that I was being lazy which motivates me to be less lazy.

It doesn't help that the distractions are so distracting. But yeah, at first I didn't realize that my computer's tendency to overheat was a blessing in disguise. I was already to buy a new one...but look how productive I've been this semester! Well OK, so you can't actually see anything, but you can take my word for it that it shows. ^^

That's true, a foot being pushed into his throat by a lethal axe does seem a bit domineering though!
Haha, I'm sure he doesn't. It's too bad you don't draw more abuse pictures! x3 I'm sure deep down, Hiccup enjoys having his arse kicked and totally owned by her!

Oh, I don't think either is a fair fight. If anything, you could argue that Toothless cares far more about Hiccup's ultimate wellbeing (even though he could be animalistically clumsy), whereas Astrid probably wouldn't think twice about a few bruises, or a scar, or missing tooth... Toothless can't fully empathize with Hiccup (he's never been a human, so he doesn't know how sensitive they can be), whereas Astrid always knows exactly what she's doing. XD
Definitely an idea I exploit a fair bit in my art here. ;)

".....and this is for everything else."
I saw the title and your name.and I thought to myself "if this is astrid straddling hiccup I will laugh so damn hard" XD
Ever since grade 7 at school I have hated corel software. In our computer studies class they made us trace line drawings of lions with everything but the pen tool. It was messed up lol.

NO.
I'M SAVING THAT FOR APRIL FOOL'S DAY XD
well, maybe. XD
I use Corel Painter Essentials fairly frequently (nearly all of my digital "chalk-on-parchment" doodles are done in it). It is kind of sucky, but I think that's what I like about it-- Half the time I'm going for a degree of stylistic suck anyway. XD
I'd never try to attempt, say, graphic design or something in this particular program though. It doesn't have a lot of functions (like, no hue/saturation screwing around, so I had to do the pink paper here in Sai).

And funnily enough, it's Hiccup who can do that kind of stuff.
If she asks nicely.
Have you seen this stuff? This lovely little scene that didn't make it into How to Train Your Dragon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcNNAeh5LJU

She appears to be asking pretty nicely here. XD
I hadn't seen it...it's a good scene, but the characters feel weird in it. Like, I'm not sure it would fit with the rest of the movie. >.> Then again, I was kind of disappointed that they didn't spend too much time with the idea of Hiccup crushing on her.

Hahaha, true! XD
Well, they couldn't just cram it in. They cannibalized it- like, a good few of the lines still ended up in the movie. I'm sure at the point when this was drawn they hadn't tweaked down the characters as much.
I like how it shows Gobber and Hiccup working together, and I think it addresses character things like the daddy issues, Hiccup's work, Astrid's background/philosophy, and Hiccup's crush on Astrid with a little bit more depth. The final movie seriously got along with the bare minimum of development on most of those things.

"See? It didn't lob your head clean off. I need it sharper."
I did notice some of the random bits that made it in. Gobber's comment about the father disliking what is inside Hiccup rather than what is outside. Ouch. XD And the joke about Astrid's ax was reappropriated for Hiccup's helmet. Given that it was supposedly one of the first drawn scenes, I think your assessment about the character tweaking process is correct.
Yeah, Astrid was essentially a two-dimensional character in the movie. I wish they would break up movies to allow for more character development, even if that means say, not having a climactic battle until the end of the second or third film.

Hahaha, it would happen, too. XD
I actually liked that bit in the clip- The line, "it's what's INSIDE he can't stand", which was what was in the movie, and then that hilarious bit afterward that wasn't, "and then there's YOUR way, and YOUR way makes grown men uncomfortable." XDXDXD Just some wonderful cheeky conversation bits.
Literally all we know about Astrid is that she's good at fighting, REALLY DETERMINED FOR SOME REASON and that Hiccup is smitten with her... for some reason. And that's pretty much all the movie goes on.
Between this clip and some things about Astrid in-movie, such as her line about "our parent's fight is going to be our own", there's some things that make me really curious about her background. Who knows if we'll EVER learn anything about it, though?
I would happily sit through character development, if it was all similarly wittily written. Given, a lot of the OMG WE'RE SRS NOW dialogue that ended up in the movie is really quite vapid and unimaginative. Like, nearly every line Astrid had was a cliche- really quite sad actually. It took until GOTNF to really start getting some insights into her personality (Gift of the Night Fury is actually a somewhat decent study of her, at least for 20 minutes, since it depicts her burying negative emotions- and she can be pretty negative. XD)

I liked it too. I'm just saying "ouch" because it's a pretty harsh thing to hear from someone you look up to.
I thought you would know more about Astrid because you have read the books. Please don't tell me she's yet another thing that Dreamworks made up about the HTTYD universe. =/
Lol Astrid negative? This is news to me. :p

Oh, sure. Though Gobber doesn't seem to mean it all that harshly (not really saying much, though). XD
What?? XD Astrid wasn't in the books at all! WHATSOEVER.
Given, it's VERY, VERY likely she was based upon a character called Camicazi, who goes on a bunch of adventures alongside Hiccup, is very blonde-haired, and rocks at fighting (even though she's a much bubblier character than Astrid, and not really pushed as a love interest (if anything, it's she who has a thing for him- as he's like 12 in the books, he's still borderline COOTIES stage, and it's demonstrated a couple times that romance in general doesn't particularly interest him yet.)) Camicazi's dragon was named Stormfly, and it so happens that Astrid's is as well.
I think they're meant to be the same character- just altered and renamed-- treating her like a completely different character gives them a lot of freedoms.
Of course, there are still some HTTYD fans in denial who insist that Camicazi is going to pop up in a later movie. I'm really not holding my breath there.
She tries to be bubbly to cover up her creeping depression. The results are cute but slightly horrifying.

It doesn't say much. I wind up saying a lot of things in front of my 'good friends' that make them laugh and say, "wow". Just because it's funny, or better yet true, doesn't make it any less mean. >.>
That sound you just heard in the distance. It is my world that just came crashing down.
Interesting. So they picked out an anti-Astrid and then gave her some negativity, a bit of blood lust, and a handful of cliches to turn her into the sweetheart she is today.
Yeah it does...it's not right to do to the fans of the books though. I know it's probably one small detail in the grand scheme of things, but those details accumulate.
It would be weird if she showed up. I think she could single-handedly turn whatever movie she is a part of into a sitcom if it isn't done correctly.

True. XD
NOOOOOOOOOO! Alas, it is truth.
Yeah, the parallel character is about eight years old, a princess of a rival/friendly (Viking relations are goofy in the books) tribe (her mother is named Big Boobied Bertha- LAWL!), and a renowned burglar/escape artist.
Given they revamped the whole HTTYD story to interpret the "going into adulthood" theme in a more traditional manner than the books tackled it, it makes sense that they'd revamp the character a bit for the love interests (since they're now teenagers, and love is far more relevant- I'm actually highly disturbed whenever I see Hic/Cami art, just because "LOL THEY'RE AGED UP" just doesn't seem to work well for me.) I FAR prefer them to do this than try to pass off this Astrid-creature, something totally different contextually, under the name Camicazi, personally.
Usually I'm quite the book purist and canon thumper. However, HTTYD is a pretty special case. If you're willing to accept giant-ass not-talking Toothless, you're going to have to just be willing to accept that the movie is its own thing altogether, almost-but-not-quite-separate entirely from the books. It's like... a real pineapple, and an abstract painting of a pineapple. A painting isn't nearly as tasty to eat or tart to smell, but its subjective color usage and the artist's interpretation might be more pleasing to the eye than the inspirational fruit. They certainly have some marked similarities, but are markedly and fundamentally not the same thing at all.
If she showed up, they'd seriously be shooting themselves in the foot. Though they've surprised me many times before.
Given, I don't know if you've heard about "HEATHER" yet. There was some released storyboards from the upcoming TV show coming out this summer(?), where Hiccup finds a random girl washed up on the beach. It's making us nervous.

Hahaha this author definitely has a good sense of humor.
That...doesn't sound like a logical thought pattern by the aged-up people. That sounds a little more like little-boy-girl-love enthusiasts in denial. What do they call it, shota or something? There's nothing wrong with it in fantasy...but I'm still glad it isn't something I'm into. XD
I think maybe it comes more from your open-mindedness. I'm not saying you're wrong about the inspirational fruit and all that. But you seem like the kind of person who would be willing to set aside a few of your expectations so you could take something that is otherwise non-canon at face value and enjoy it as if it were canon.
Well, maybe they can turn catastrophe into success if they plan accordingly. I don't see them going through that kind of trouble just to half-ass it.
LOL I think "nervous" was about the most polite way you could have phrased that. XD

She does. XD It varies from brainy sarcasm and black humor to full out Neandarthalish poo jokes. XD
I think they're trying to apply Movie Hiccup (who's anywhere from 16 to 18) to the book's universe (or rip Camicazi from the books and movie-ify her into a teenage character). I kind of understand what they're trying to do, but to me the book is book and movie is movie, and it's not so easy for me to cross the streams like that.
It's true. I think though, that the big difference is that the How to Train Your Dragon movie doesn't remotely pretend to be a faithful adaptation to the books, and thus it shouldn't be TREATED like a faithful adaptation of the books. It's one thing to go to a Harry Potter movie and criticize everything they skipped, played up for no apparent reason or messed up, because those ARE supposed to be direct adaptations of the books (and yes, I was DEFINITELY one of those people- I love being the book purist and "right" about everything when I can be XD). HTTYD is a whole different animal. If you're not willing to accept that from the moment you see the trailer (WTF IS THAT HUGE BLACK THING TOOTHLESS AND WHY IS THAT KID BRUNETTE AND NOT GINGER AND FLYING??? WHAT???), then you're in for a rough ride- the movie completely rewrites the canon from the very beginning (the books start with humans living in relative harmony with their slightly disobedient house-dragons- there isn't anything close to a dragon raid until the ninth, i.e., second to last book-- a scene that was actually probably INSPIRED by the movie anyway.)
I can be quite closed minded when it comes to fandom- don't underestimate me. XD
Yeah, I mean. I thought I would hate the movie. Loved it. Thought Gift of the Night Fury was going to be commercialized sucknfail. Loved it. So maybe they can pull something that crazy off. I just hope they don't get too overconfident with how well they've done so far.
Oh, much so. Malus has already drawn Toothless eating her. XD

Oh dear. ^^ Just the other day, I was reminiscing about how black people in urban areas seem to have this personality they put on whenever they're having fun and BSing with their friends. And I say this in the most endearing way possible, because I used to drive hours to hang out with these people. I miss being in that kind of atmosphere. But yeah, race jokes are hilarious when done correctly.
It goes to show that just because there is a will does not mean there should be a way.
All right all right...I was trying to be the nice guy and give you the benefit of the doubt. But if you want me to think less of you then so be it. :p Seriously though, that is a good comparison. Based on what I have heard from you about the book series, there is zero chance that the movie is meant to reflect the books.
Heh. Well we have discussed this sort of thing before I believe. Chances are they will beat the series over the head until everyone is bored to death with the characters.
So I take it when you said "us" that you were not including Malus.
Noooo you should always babble. Historically I have a difficult time making conversation, so I like it when other people do more of the work. ^^

Oh, I meant black humor as in... dark humor. XD There ARE actually multiple races in HTTYD, but they're treated more or less equally- it's the tribe differences that are the big ones. Given that one of the huge central themes of the series is slavery and service, I'm not sure emphasis on race would go over too well.
I agree, though. XD
And exactly.
FANDOM IS SRS BNS. God. That's like I actually posted this on Deviantart recently, and I got a bitchy "le sigh" comment because it wasn't the Hic/Cami pairing. Like, seriously? I am so baffled that people can treat the two pairings as if they're somehow opposing, or mutually exclusive! They don't exist in the same medium! GAH. And that it would bother someone that much to come comment on it like that (I mean, I see tons of stuff that I don't like every day in the fandom. I DON'T COMMENT ON IT, unless I have something to say about the merits of the art. EW YOUR OPINIONS SUCK is such a pointless thing to tell someone on their home ground.)
Yeah, go the Shrek route. GAH.
He drew it because he already assumed Heather was going to be a suck-fest. I think that falls under the "nervous" category. XD
Oh, is that what's happening here? XDXDXD All righty. XD

You can't blame me for jumping to that conclusion. XD Hmm...I guess race would be a sour spot if slavery is an issue. Unless of course they enjoy being slaves. If I ever wrote a book, it would contain slaves who enjoy being slaves.
Y U NO LIKE MY OPINIONS
Seriously...buy or make your own if you don't like what someone else is doing. Unless Hiccup has an actual girlfriend (even if he does), there is no right pairing.
OH GOD I was watching Shrek 1 earlier today. I'm sad that they milked that concept dry. =/
Haha yeah it does. But at least we can sleep easy knowing that regardless of how crappy she makes the HTTYD universe, there will always be prons of her. XD
No exposing my vulnerabilities now. I have an image to maintain.

Yeah, Shrek was pretty awesome for a while.
RULE 34 FTW XP. New, possibly creepy tangent: I'm actually surprised how little Ruff/Tuff twincest, Stoick/Gobber and Toothless/Stormfly (the Nadder) prons there are. Not because it would be GOOD, but because it would be HILARIOUS. Actually, I'm far more willing to comprehend any of those than the idea that Hiccup's pansy ass can withstand giant Night Fury cock. But all right.

Stoick/Astrid??? BRILLIANT!!!
they need more creative terminology/imagery for her tramp stamp, though. Seriously? Cum dumpster? Neither of those things were called that in Viking days! GAHHH
seriously though
Goddammit Malus.
Stock/Gobber was traumatizing? DID SPITELOUT JOIN IN? BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE A BADASS THREESOME.

LOL you keep making that face and it's gonna stay like that.
THERE IS A CORRECT ANSWER AND IT'S MINE
It was until the point of Donkey and the Dragon making babies together. Pivotal moment on the fuckometer.
Or that Hiccup's pansy ass wants dragon cock. Of the three you listed, the lack of night fury/nadder is most surprising given it is most plausible of the three.
I'm actually kind of surprised that you like vore of your favorite series. (Or one of, at least.) I have tried to like vore with my favorite characters but it destroys the innocence. Or the innocence destroys the vore. Or maybe both.

XD
True. XD I don't know-- Twins are ALWAYS porn fodder, and so are greasy dignified manly men (though I guess Gobber/Hiccup as mentor/apprentice is more classic-- that's just even more fucked up, though. XDXDXDXD AMPUTEE PORN MYESSS). Maybe I haven't been around the furry community long enough to see a lot of implementation of feral-on-feral cross-species 34.
Fun fact: In the books, TOOTHLESS ACTUALLY DOES HAVE THE HOTS FOR STORMFLY (who happens to be a different breed of dragon, but belongs to Hiccup's friend who is a girl, the same way). In fact, I could argue that between book and movie, acknowledging every detail, it's probably the most well established romantic relationship across the franchise aside from Hiccup/Astrid.
I think a large part of it is that I don't associate vore with sexual feelings unless it meets some very very stiff criteria (and even then, it's more about the situation and emotions than the characters involved). Seeing vore fanart of other things doesn't really bother me. Obviously I have much stronger feelings about porn and sexualization of my pet fandoms. (Though I've found recently that I'm building up a tolerance for 34-- I actually like it sometimes, if it's drawn well and about a series I don't really care about. HTTYD stuff is at best, really amusing-- I actually get major laughs out of porny jokes like the thing Malus just linked-- things that don't take themselves seriously and are relatively not graphic. It's the serious, graphic stuff that I just go WHOA BRO and skip on over.)
One thing is that of the two MAJOR fandoms I've had (and a few of my minor ones, even), vore was an integral part of the canonical world. In the books, Hiccup is chased and non-fatally swallowed (if you define "swallowed" as over the back of the tongue), several times-- the movie provides evidence that dragons are known to eat (or at least, kill/capture) people, and there are plenty of hints for a vore artist to leap off, relatively noninvasive of the canon.
I don't know how I'd feel about it if I was part of a fandom that didn't have the possibility of vore ingrained in its universe. XD

It's times like this I want to leave my species and start over. >.<

Can't. See. You bastard.
Wweeeeell, incest is the most universal taboo in human history (lol Egyptians), so the repressed desire could make people go for some weird shit. Example, the amputee porn (which I'm not knocking because I'm sure there's some pretty fascinating and creative stuff that can be done with it, but you have to admit if you like it that it's about as weird as vore is in some sense). >.< I have been around furries long enough to see sexings with Land Before Time and Spyro, which was about the biggest blow my childhood could handle at the time.
(You mean Hiccup and the book's Astrid, Cami?)
NOT COOL, BRO
I suppose it's a good thing your tastes are so specific. Your accumulating tolerance is, I think, an inevitability of exposing yourself to the internet. I've found myself liking things that I never thought I would, even things I'm embarrassed to admit, lol. But yeah, I still find it hard to laugh at things of a suggested sexual nature when they involve people Astrid's age. =/ I know it is all in good fun and I'm not mad or anything, but still..
So you found your justification? ; ) I suppose HTTYD (and Zelda iirc) having evidence for non-fatal vore does go a long way for vore plausibility. One thing I will say though: don't overthink it. >.>

Yeah, I don't really have anything against amputee porn (or really, a lot of strange fetishes themselves)-- I just always have to laugh at how... appropriate HTTYD is for that sort of thing. (funnily enough, that is something that carried over from the books-- neither Hiccup nor Gobber were amputees, but the bad guy, Alvin, had all sorts of hunks taken out of him.)
I mean Hiccup and Astrid. I was talking about all HTTYD-related material put together, in total. Hiccup/Camicazi isn't pushed much more than some vague, unrequited reactions of Camicazi's that might be construed as a light crush on Hiccup, if that's what you're looking for. But they're both really quite young children, so romance doesn't make a TON of sense.
Yeah, I've been on the interwebs way too long. XDXDXD I'd rather see stuff with Astrid than with Camicazi, since Astrid's at least post pubescent (anywhere from 16-18). Like I said, canonically Camicazi's around eight years old, and even "aging her up" just seems awkward.
And yes. XD It's easier some places than others. XD And I try not to, but of course I'm very biased and inclined to do so. XDXDXD

I kind of suspected that Hiccup had not become an amputee in the books simply because they're geared more towards children than post pubescent women, and that doesn't sound like a kiddie theme. But as for Gobber, I am surprised.
Crushes make sense, however. Heck, some girl and I kissed when we were in 1st grade (six-ish years old), so the potential exists.
It is in your nature. If night furies kept sketch books, it would be somewhere in the margin next to those weird things humans roll across the floor and immobilize themselves in for hours at a time in front of shiny, eye-level boxes.

>.< If I was speaking nonsense, there were better options than to just laugh at me. XD
OK, let me try again:
"It is in your nature. If night furies kept sketch books, it would be somewhere in the margin next to those weird things humans roll across the floor and immobilize themselves in for hours at a time in front of shiny, eye-level boxes."
I was joking that your tendency to overanalyze is so common that a night furry, making observations and sketches as Hiccup does in the movie, would have thought it was how you behaved and made a sketch next to a technical drawing (in the page margin) somewhere. Also in said book would be a sketch of you sitting for hours at a time in front of your computer screen. I spend waaay too many hours in front of a screen myself, lol.
"I wrote that in a hurry, telling my buddy I would meet him for studying when I was done sending along an e-mail. I was hoping it was going to be legible."
I told my study-buddy that I would walk down to campus with him at a particular time so that we could work on the homework. As usual, my conversation with you was taking longer than anticipated, so I lied and told him I had to finish typing up an e-mail quick. I've only told a handful of my rl friends that furaffinity exists, and he isn't one of them. So yeah, it was rushed, and I assumed the joke wouldn't come across, but I wanted to write you back anyway.

Okay, now that you say that I think I halfway got it. XDXDXD
Truth. I wouldn't be very interesting to observe, either. XP
I always wanted to write a stupid fic about Toothless analyzing Hiccup's behavior when eaten. Or them analyzing each other. Very vanilla fluffiness. But then I forgot I kinda suck at writing. XDXDXD

The other thing you have to remember is that I make terrible jokes, lol.
Well, we think dragons are interesting because they're not humany. So unless you're dragony...
No you don't suck. You make appropriate word choices, and your character's thoughts are deep and curious. I also feel that you strike a good balance between action and description, so I'm never bored and never left wondering about the environment, positioning, mindset, or anything like that. But I think it's natural to be critical of your own work. I also am sure that my ideas are not very interesting to other people, so I am always thankful when others insist that I am wrong. ^^
FYI, the reason I haven't read Snow Story yet is because I know that once I start reading it I will want to finish. It's hard to find a solid 2 to 3 hours where I know I don't have anything important to do.

Hahaha, so do I. XD
And I suck by plain virtue of never finishing anything. Doesn't matter how well-written it is if it doesn't EXIST. XDXDXD THanks though- good to know I don't labor on these honking huge stories for nothing. XD
My only finished story right now is Nightmare. All of Snow Story I have up right now is like, a two page excerpt.

Well, I'm still working on that story. XD
I had to cut this bit in particular just because it won't work out. I kept it because I REALLY liked it-- it was just too long-winded and roundabout. I didn't want it to never be read, but it doesn't contribute to the plot much anymore. So I posted it. XD

Poor Hiccup. I would SO not date Astrid, though she seems so much less badass in the new shorts. Also, I'm wondering why they never did a Valentine's short with the Snaptrapper. It would have been perfect. XD Awesome drawing. Hiccup's eyes look sorta... different than your usual stuff. Not to say I don't like it though. Funny idea.
I think, culturally, she's standard. Any girl on Berk would do the same thing. XD She's got a soft side. XD
They probably didn't make the connection. XP It's stupid enough that it smells like chocolate, which Vikings... wouldn't even recognize. Though we can forgive American food references because Cowell did it. XP
I try to continually learn and try new things. Try. XD
