Sweat still clung to her flesh despite the chill that hung in the air, her breath leaving her lips in puffs and trails of mist. The grey, somewhat grimy bandages that she used to bind her chest were all that she wore on her upper half. A pair of soft, well worn pants of similar material hung loose around her legs as she leaned against a smooth, marble wall. Her fingers were numb from both the cold, and from her climb up the stone walls of the building. She'd memorized it, every leap, every jump, ever small outcrop that aided her in climbing up the western side of the great, solitary building. She leaned her head back and took a deep breath in, her great, pronged horns ticking gently against the cold stone as she looked around her. Great stone pillars and heavy red curtains were all that now separated her from the howling winds and ferocious chill of the outside world.
Her breathing began to slow, eventually, and her body began to cool. She pushed herself forward from the wall, her dark skin a sharp contrast to the pearly marble that lay, ever so briefly, beneath her palm. Slowly, she started walking around the curved hallway that made the outer sanctum of the building, her claws clicking on the floor as she passed by locked and barred doors. She often questioned what lay behind them and, once or twice, she’d even tried to pick the locks, but never had she succeeded. Had it been any other place, she might’ve tried a more forceful method to open them, but she knew the consequences of coming here, and knew that not even her dear mentor, Torador, could help her if she was caught here.
After a ten minute walk around the massive, circular building’s halls, she sat in between two pillars that, to all else, might seem identical. She leaned over, wrapping her now slightly less numb fingers around the rough red fabric of the curtain and pulled it back to reveal a truly stunning sight. The mountain that lay before her, though she’d never been to its snowy peaks or climbed its rocky trails, felt more like home than any of the cold walls that surrounded her now. She sat and waited, her muscles and skin tightening as the frigid air walked across her lithe form. The sky around the mountains lay in wait, still dark, still surrounded by a thousand winking stars as day threatened to come. Dim violet and pink began to bleed through the sky, intertwining and blending seamlessly into what previously was the night. She smiled, and allowed herself to become comfortable, crossing her legs and leaning forward a bit as she witnessed her favorite part of the day.
Dawn broke over the mountains, light shattering across the sky and stained it an array of beautiful colours. It crawled down the mountainside, sweeping over the layers and layers of stone walls that made up the compound. It swept its way up, a friendly warm caressing her in combination with the cold winds. She couldn’t help but smile, couldn’t help but breath deeper and feel more at peace. It was the most perfect spot in the entire place, the only place that felt the dawn and the chill with such beautiful harmony. The only place that cast her mountain in such a brilliant and calming light, the only place she felt calm.
Perhaps, if she had known what lay behind the doors, if she had known why this was a forbidden place, she would not have felt so much at ease. But as it were, she did not. She was far too entwined in her sunrise, her mountain, and her blissful ignorance held.
For now, at very least.
I'm actually quite happy how both the image and the story turned out for this ^^
Everyone, this is Oshio, a new Casting Creature character of mine that I'm SET on developing.
I really dont know if i want to tell you all too much asides from what's mentioned in the story above, because i've also been thinking of maaaaaybe setting up a Pathfinder campaign sometime in the (not too?) distant future. in which she might be an NPC xD but who can say.
I'm really loving her design, and her mark (which i might reveal at a later date~)
