With the latest episode, "Hearts and Hooves Day", comes a bunch of special one-off characters and only one new one with a speaking role. Here's the rundown:
That fat little grey schoolcolt first seen in the background in "Family Appreciation Day" makes another appearance, and even gets a closeup this time, so I put him in. He seems to have a number of fan nicknames; I went with the first one I found, "Truffle Shuffle" (apparently a Goonies reference).
Various interesting characters show up and vanish in Sweetie Belle's "Perfect Stallion" song. I put in the videogame-playing colt that Sweetie points to when she says "This one's too young", just because he was so easy to do. (BTW, check out his beanie; it's identical to the one Screwball was wearing! Keep that in mind next time you draw Screwball.)
[ASIDE #1: The little old pony with the big black glasses shows up again; I already put him in, but now he's got a new fan nickname: "Smokey".]
[ASIDE #2: I could be persuaded to colorkey other ponies from the song in the future. That flashy disco stallion looks interesting!]
Then of course we have the jeweller, the only new character with a speaking role in H&HD.
And finally, how is it I've gotten this far without ever colorkeying Caramel? Oh, and apparently, despite the fantasies of some shippers out there, he's not gay! (Though he could be bi. Who knows?)

Well it's a sad and slightly disturbing thought that can be made by looking in the background.
In the verse "This one's too old." We see the old guy was talk to a group of people while standing next to a coffin. This obviously means a funeral but this is a bit worse than the fact that there is a funeral on the "day of love". Remember the episode before that scene where when Rainbow Dash sneak back into the hospital for a book and we see what people are debating is either a guy with cancer or an old guy? Either way put those two thoughts together...
Do you see what I mean?

I think "Smokey" looks an awful lot like animator and one of Disney's famous "Nine Old Men," Ward Kimball:

I say we call him "Ward."
