Yeah that just happened ^.^
A HUUUUUUGE thanks to my bestest buddy
Keeko-chan for accompanying me on this adventure and providing moral support while I talked my way through the front desk and into the wind tunnel. The staff at iFLY were amazingly supportive of this, especially when I told them about my plans to skydive in suit and that I first wanted to test it in a wind tunnel. They were mostly concerned about pieces of the suit flying off, lol. I knew that wasn't going to be a problem (suits with feetpaws made from slippers would be at a huge risk for this though). What I wasn't sure about was how stable the suit would be and if the head would stay on well enough to not further impair my vision.
Stability-wise the suit is fine albeit a bit sluggish to control. So it's a bit harder to quickly correct a maneuver. I have to hold a position or pose for a moment longer than I'm used to and then ease out of it as I realign. No biggie.
The head. Ooooooh man... this'll be a fun problem to solve. So the moment I entered the tunnel the head almost immediately came up over my eyes. I spent most of the time looking through the mouth to see where I was going and that doesn't work too well because I still had to look down a fair amount to see. Looking down too much would cause my whole body to dive a little and at one point I lost control and slammed into the wall. Furlife has a crafting meet coming up next weekend so hopefully I can talk to some of the more experienced fursuiters about what to do to keep the head from moving too much while you wear it. Anyone is welcome to post advice here as well :)
All things considered this was a great experience (although quite humbling xP). The folks at iFLY gave me a video of my time in the tunnel. Normally they charge for that but it was complimentary this time. That was so cool of them and I'm really glad they did (I wasn't going to get one otherwise). I gotta admit the video is pretty darn funny, my tail was wagging like crazy from all the wind and the instructor would skillfully sneak in a goofy pose next to me from time. At one point I was durpily making a turn and nearly kicked him in the head but he dodged out of the way at the last moment. That guy was quick on his feet!
So overall this adventure was a great starting point for my skydiving plans. I know what needs to be worked on before I make that first jump in fursuit. I just gotta figure out the best way to do it.
Seriously, a big thanks to the folks at iFLY for letting me do this :) If any of you other fuzzies are interested in giving this a shot check our their website at http://www.iflyseattle.com/ifly-indoor-skydiving Shameless plug, I know, but it's the least I can do for them after all the support they just gave me.

Be careful about making edits to your suit.. You wouldn't want to ruin the comfort of it!
Plus, by making an edit yourself or having a friend do it, you'll void your DHC warranty. Which you could need in the future, if the strong wind ripped an ear off (unlikely, as they're attached damn well) or a cloud/damp air ruins the eyes.
Just be careful, and try to find a way to make a removable/non-attached way to keep the head stable :)

Yeah the work won't be finished until the head is both comfortable to wear & stable for free fall. I just hope it doesn't turn into too big of a project, lol. The DHC warranty I have only covers the first 60 days and it has been about that long now. Since the stuff I do in suit is a bit outside the norm I wouldn't expect them to cover future repairs on their own dime anyway, they'd go broke! xP
Oh! Well yeah, I would think that doing repairs for a fee is a natural part of being their customer. Voiding the warranty by doing my own mods doesn't mean they'll forsake me though (I would think...), it just means no free repairs during the warranty period.
BTW your icon is so awesome! hehehe

I'm not really planning on uploading the whole video but I'll probably include a few moments of it when I make some sort of compilation video. We'll see though. I'm brand-new to making videos, I don't even know how to take it off of the DVD it's on, lol (this picture is just a screen grab from it).
Dude why haven't you gone yet?? XP
I'm thinking it'll make a decent meetup event but I wouldn't recommend anyone fursuits in the tunnel until they've learned how to control themselves in it (or had a good number of skydives). There were lots of kids to entertain and the staff were really cool so suiting outside of the tunnel would probably be okay. And hey, watching is free! ^.^

I might someday but I'm new to the whole video thing so I don't even know how to rip it from the CD it's currently on much less edit it xP Gimme a week or two and I'll get around to doing something with it. I know for sure that I'll be using a few seconds of it in a compilation video that I have plans for.
The head flying off isn't the issue, it's that half-inch of play it has that lets it come up over my eyes. The suspenders idea isn't half bad but when I'm wearing a parachute rig I'll already have straps going all over my body and to have another set of them beneath the suit could cause a bit of an issue when the rig tightens against them. Thanks for the input!
Lol I guess that's the Infantry in me, always trying to lead the way xD But at least you can use my experience to make your first time in the tunnel more enjoyable. I can't begin to stress how important it'll be to have a chinstrap or extra padding or just SOMETHING in the head to keep it from getting blown up over over your eyes. A half inch of play is about really all it took to blind me for most of my time in the tunnel x.x
Okay, if I hadn't already been convinced of this yet, yer nuts, Sky! While it'd be easier to film it yourself rather than get some camera flyer at your DZ to film a guy in a fursuit (an idea they'd certainly laugh at), it probably wouldn't give a great PoV on your freefall, not to mention once you're under canopy the fur of the ear just might make it hard for us to see where you're going.
5 minute blocks of time seem are the standard, I didn't ask about other options like if someone could go for just minute. From there you just buy more time... 10 minutes, 15, etc. I only went for 5 and the first 3 were for them to gauge me to see if I would be safe enough in the tunnel to be trusted in suit, lol.
She is not really a sky diver but after watching the movie "the bucket list" she made things to do list which if I could add you on fb you could see the pics I took of her falling. I think there are some pics as well while they flew. Not quite sure but I do remember from that day she wanted to go an other time.
