Ahh, how unfortunate.
I mean, I am hardly find another piece of literature like this, fan based or not. It's a very refreshing story to read as it met most of the curiosity I have, and pretty much as well as the criteria to be written that way on FA, too.
The originality does matters, I know, though it'd be better if you are truly 'sharpen' the writing skill with your first novel, than scrap it and go for the original immediately. Of course that's just my suggestion.
