Its getting close to "food shopping day" so that means that all the "good" food has been devoured and the cupboards are getting kinda bare. If you're the one who buys the groceries in your house, I'm sure you have a few food items that you make sure to always keep stocked, maybe without even thinking about it, because its just good to know they are there in case you might need them, even if you hardly ever eat them normaly.
This is the case with everything in this recipe. in my freezer Iv always got a few packs of smoked sausage, and some pork chops, a roll of italian sausage. my cupboards always have beef/chicken stock, baked beans, dark red beans, (a few other types of beans), white rice, and baking mix.
I also use my slow cooker whenever I can, it just makes everything easier.
What you will need:
2-3 14oz packs of smoked sausage, cut/sliced (skinless or not)
2 40oz cans Dark red beans (Drained and rinsed)
6 tsp Minced garlic
2 cups White rice
4 cups water (add more if it looks too dry while its cooking, but it shouldn't be soupy)
1 tsp salt (to taste)
1 bay leaf
add onions if you like them! They are good for this recipe, I have a low tolerance for onions so I didn't add them, and I'm not sure how much you should add lol.
Instructions:
1. Combine in slow cooker, drained and rinsed beans, garlic, rice, sausage and water, and season with salt and bay leaf. cover and set on high
2. when its heated mix it up and either cook on low for about 6 hours or high for 4 hours.
Enjoy :D
