I'd never drawn an anthro character before, and avoided doing so because in certain internet social circles it's "taboo." However, despite not having any desire to be a furry or be immersed in the subculture, I'd developed a fascination with the character designs, which are sometimes so pretty/fun/silly/cool/etc.
First I created and drew my own character for the first time... which would be "Aqua" the blue horned leopard one with the pink background. Then I opened up a freebie entry on the cheap art LJ community "teenycom http://teenycom.livejournal.com/115......html#comments I found a fair number of interested parties and in two weekends I was able to complete all those that had requested, and I compiled them like this to submit. The original arts are 600x600 and you can see my links to them in the comments directed at the individual people who requested them (you can also see which character belongs to whom.)
They were...really fun to draw. Depending on the complexity they took generally took me 1-2 hours each. Just making these fun colorful characters for free to make people happy was really relaxing and I enjoyed it a lot.
If you'd like to buy something like this they are $5 + $2 for complicated characters

I've been involved with artwork and illustration for a long time and am making my career out of it. To be able to adapt to vastly different subject matter and encompass many different styles is important to me so your approval is quite appreciated.
I really did love drawing them and love all the different character designs out there, I hope to draw more of them in the future.

Yeah it's always good to cover a wide a variety of subject matter as possible. Sadly Humans are among the things I fail at drawing currently. (Hoomans R hard! lol)
Anthros really shouldn't be taboo in any culture imo I mean.. Hasn't almost everyone watched a cartoon or been to Disneyland? Walt Disney built an empire on Anthro characters.

Well, any minority will come to be recognized (and judged) based on whatever the most extreme/worst/loudest parts are. Obviously in the case of furries you have to take the adult content, and tendency for said furry adult content to get mixed with every other fetish under the sun, and mix in a few social-train wreck personalities and it leaves a big impression on anyone on the outside looking in, even when there are other less extreme dimensions to the story.
In nature it's not unlike someone assuming people in the south are ignorant and unintelligent, muslims are extremists/terrorists and gay men are all the super lispy insane flamboyant charicature in every single "gay people" comedy sketch.
I think some people are offended by any of these sorts of comparisons though, since he furry fandom is perceived as more optional because it's a hobby/lifestyle thing.
I used to be accepting but generally squiked out by furries too. But this natural transformation of appreciation and embracing occurred magically over time.
NOW I JUST WANT TO HAVE GROUP HUGS ALL AROUND.
